1. How do you map current status of the Sunwind and Volvo on the product process matrix?

Sunwind used separate operations to manufacture the products in batches, operations consisted of Fabrication and Assembly and were manufactured in small and large batches.
Some of the examples of such operations are :
1. Individual parts such as wooden battens, shaped ply woods , steel parts were manufactured in batches of 2500.
2 The process of carpeting glued and folded onto the plywood units was carried out in a batch of 500.
Product Process Matrix for Sunwind: Volvo used an Assembly line Process for its Torslanda, Ghent and Kalmar plant .
At Torslanda and Ghent , Traditional assembly line was implemented while at Kalmar Team zone method was used in which each team of workers had responsibility for assembling an entire subsystem within the vehicle. There were 20 such team zones.

2. Draw the schematic flow diagram for Sunwind and all Volvo plants. (Draw at abstract level not detailed level). Provides detail of distances and demand
(quantity based on 1987 forecast) flow.

From the forecast of 1987 we see that the total demand across the three plants of Volvo: Torslanda, Kalmer, and Ghent is 65000 units. We assume that as Save is close by to Torslanda the entire lot is first shipped to Torslanda and then from there the respective requirement’s of Kalmer and Ghent is passed on. There is no information on the distances of the other locations of Volvo hence we consider only Torslanda as we know that it is 8Km from Save.

He wants to know what the lowest possible cost of shipping will can be.
