Sunspots And Solar Cycle Of The Sun
In this photo of the sun from the solar telescope the sun looks like an orange red shade from the telescope, different from viewing it from the sky. There is no sunspots or solar flares as the sun is currently at a solar minimum. Which means that the sunspots and solar flare activity is absent, this occurs in part of the 11-year solar cycle of the

Isabel Wilkerson’s The Warmth of Other Suns: The Epic Story of America’s Great Migration delves into the great exodus of Southern blacks to the North from World War I to the 1970s. While this in an already acknowledged period of Southern and American history, the book is still an important source in Southern studies. For one, the book provides students with three extensive firsthand accounts of the period, something they may not have been exposed to before. Meanwhile, some may argue that since a great portion of the stories take place during the lives of the subjects while in the North, that the book technically does not include enough Southern history to be a viable resource.…

Bombats generally tend to be most active when the sun is highest in the sky, or, noon. There may be a few variables that have to do with that reason. These reasons include, temperature, food availabilty and predator presence. There are more factors possible as to why Bombats stick to this cycle; however, I feel these three are the most compelling reasons.…

Sunspots are dark areas on the solar surface that contain transient and concentrated magnetic fields. They are the most prominent visible features on the photosphere Sun; a moderate-sized sunspot is about as large as Earth. Sunspots form and dissipate over periods of days or weeks. They occur when strong magnetic fields emerge through the solar surface and allow the area to cool slightly, from a background value of 6000 degrees C down to about 4200 degrees C; this area appears as a dark spot in contrast with the Sun. The darkest area at the centre of a sunspot is called the umbra; it is here that the magnetic field strengths are the highest. The less dark, striated area around the umbra is called the penumbra. Sunspots rotate with the solar surface, taking about 27 days to make a complete rotation as seen from Earth. Sunspots near the Sun's equator rotate at a faster rate than those near the solar poles. Groups of sunspots, especially those with complex magnetic field configurations, are often the sites of flares.…

The sun is approximately 4.5 billion years old. The age of the sun is estimated the mass of the star (SunTrek 1). The difference between the sun and the other stars is the distance. The sun is 8 light minutes away while the other stars are light-years away. The suns energy is generated from nuclear reactions. The sun will be able to generate energy for the Earth for another 5 to 6 billion years to come (How the sun Works 1). The sun is not burning. The sun undergoes nuclear fusion and it will last until the hydrogen runs out. A sunspot is a dark, cool area on the surface of the sun in a region called the photosphere. Sunspots cause coronal mass ejections which are big storms of solar flares (Space 1). Sunspots are counted in cycles. On average, a…

Isabel Wilkerson is an African American Howard University journalism graduate writer and the first black woman in the history of American Journalism to win a Pulitzer Prize. Among her notable works is the novel “The Warmth of Other Suns”. The novel The Warmth of Other Suns was about the Great Migration which occurred between the years 1915-1970 and this was the movement of approximately seven million Black people out of the Southern United States to the North, Midwest and Western states from 1916 to 1970. Blacks migrated to escape widespread racism in the South, to seek employment opportunities in industrial cities of the North, to get better education for their children, and to pursue what was widely perceived to be a more prosperous life. Wilkerson wrote this book because she wanted to report about the most under-reported story in American history. Despite the fact that the Great Migration was one of the largest internal migrations in the US, it was either not reported in-depth or not reported at all and her book addressed the omissions. Also her parents were among the 7 million people who partook in the Great Migration and that was one personal reason why she wrote The Warmth of Other Suns.…

In No Climate Change Under the Faint Early Sun, Rosing makes an argument about the climate during Earth's early life. Rosing's main focus and motivation of the paper is to explain why the Earth was warmer than expected. He does this by having different scenarios and for some of them, finding a counterargument that contradicts them. In the paper, he contradicts that there was an extremely high level of carbon dioxide and that the greenhouse gases alone were not sufficient to compensate for the faint early sun. Instead Rosing turns to the idea that in Earth's early history, the low albedo was what kept the planet warm along with little help of the greenhouse gases.…

One week our homework was to watch the sunset and record observations. I noticed that the colors of the sunset changed and the time the sun went down gradually got later. The colors although usually consist of blue, pink, and purple around the sun. The sun’s colors were usually orange and yellow.…
