Summer Reading Project: Mello Yello
For my summer reading project I chose Melody. For this project we had to pick three symbols for our poster. The three symbols I included were a Mello Yello can, the cerebral palsy symbol, and a brain. I chose a Mello Yello can because that was Melody’s favorite drink. She loved it so much that she was nicknamed “Mello Yello”. In the book it stated “Mello Yello was my favorite. Mrs. V even started calling me that.” (Draper, pg. 44). This was important because she loved being called this. I placed this symbol next to her hand instead of in her hand because she was never able to hold things by herself. She always somebody to feed her and give her drinks. The next symbol I chose to draw was the cerebral palsy sign. I did this because she has been diagnosed with this condition ever since she was born. It is and always will be a huge factor in her life. She will never be the same as everyone else, which makes her feel left out. This represents how she has and always will live. I put it on her shirt because she will have to deal with it everyday much like she has to wear a shirt and get dressed everyday. The final symbol I chose to put on my summer reading poster was a

I chose this one because is is about how Melody saw or thought about words. Words were a big part of her life eventually. I put this quote in a thought bubble because it was a thought in her mind in the beginning of the story. The second quote I put in her head because it was about dreaming. It is important because the dream was about how she was able to do things that she would never normally be able to do. The last quote on her shirt is about how she thinks missing her flight was her fault. She had no control over it and that is why it is important and significant in this story. It was not her fault and she shouldn’t feel bad.I put it on her jeans because they are luee and when you’re sad you feel blue and down. The jeans symbolize how she is
