In the article, “Secret Ingredient of Success,” it states the success of David Chang. David Chang is a Korean-American chef and entrepreneur. He founded the Momofuku restaurant group, which includes Momofuku Noodle Bar, Momofuku Ssäm Bar, Má Pêche, Milk Bar and Momofuku Ko in New York City, Momofuku Seiōbo in Sydney, Australia and the Momofuku Toronto restaurants Momofuku Noodle Bar (TO), Nikai, Daishō and Shōtō. Before Chang was successful, he had trouble making money. He had issues keeping employees and he could scarcely pay himself a salary. One day, he went to a packed, successful restaurant with his staff to eat burgers. He was angry at his self because he thought he was more talented. Later on, he realized he needed to alter his menus because a traditional noodle dish would not make him successful. Chang and his workers congested the menu with different styles of food that customers would want to eat. The outcome was a successful restaurant with customers, reviews, and awards. KIPP (Knowledge Is Power Program) is an experimental program designed to close the achievement gap between privileged and poor students. The students earned the highest scores of any school in the Bronx and they are the fifth highest in all of New York City. Most students are accepted to the top high schools, usually with full scholarships and their all destined for college. However, most students dropped out of college. This is because of the students’ failure of character traits. New research states that the skills that see a student through college and beyond have less to do with smarts but personality traits, such as the ability to stay focused and control instincts. Also in the article, it states, “Apparently medical reasons explain why children who grow up in abusive or dysfunctional environments generally find it harder to concentrate, sit still and rebound from disappointments. The part of the brain most affected by early stress is the prefrontal cortex, which is critical for regulating thoughts and mediating behavior.
