Lakshmi desire to escape finally came . She is now free living her life like a teenage girl would.
The author talks about a young girl who is the age of thirteen being sold into prostitution . In the beginning the young girl was living a normal life , going to school , feeding the animals and farming the crops . Until she got sold by a family member for money . Patricia McCormick is telling us in the book Sold that this a normal thing that young girls and women go through everyday in Nepal being treated like they aren't worth nothing
,beaten , sexually abused , and tortured. This is not okay . I feel as young girl too women should be respected and cared for not treaded like an animal ,but like an actual human being. I'm glad that the author wrote this story so I can understand what's going on different parts of the world.
Having my eyes open too all things and not be small minded to others. In today's world we people complain and say “ how hard life is “ or “ my life sucks “ ,but there is people all over the world who lives are much complicated then yours. She is little and cute. She is in the photography class; she is very quiet and shy with the camera. Kochi does the dishes, brings tea, and does errands for her upstairs neighbor (Briski 7:39). Her story is heartbreaking because no child should be doing this type of work, she should be playing with friends and having fun every day. She mops twice a day and she gets paid for doing this. In the evenings if her neighbor wants she does shopping and works until eleven at night. Kochi keeps thinking what she could become is she gets an education and leaves the brothels. She likes the photography class and taking pictures, but she does not like editing them. She feels shy taking pictures in public because people tease her and say mean things. She lives with her grandmother because her mother cannot take care of her. Kochi tells us that her father tried to sell her, and if her sister did not come to get her, she would have been sold. Who knows, if she would have been sold maybe she would have never seen her family ever again. Kochi is worried that she would probably become a prostitute and does not want to. Briski thinks that she is going to be forced into prostitution because she is very shy and never says no. At 4 in the morning Kochi starts cleaning houses with her grandmother, but Kochi works so hard that she has no time to rest or play with her friends. Her mother lost six sons and her husband died too. Kochi is almost by herself since no…

Obviously I can't relate to the situation that Lakshmi was in but I do understand how one second you think everything's going great, and then the next minute you have no idea what happened. I had a different quote, but then I read this book and it has become my favorite quote. This made me kind of put down my book and think about and how no matter how good the people around us are, there is always going to be someone corrupt. No matter where you live or how severe the horribleness of humanity really is. I'd like to think that if given the chance, the police officer would not look the other way, maybe customers would show up, knowing they were staring into they eyes of a child, on who’s probably here against her will, and leave. I’d like to think that in a world of so much good there is little evil. But I know it is the other way around. Hopefully when given the chance, we will choose the right…

If Lakshmi did not have perseverance, then she would have given up like a lot of girls, and she would have gotten beaten for not trying, or not making enough money for Mumtaz. (PAGE 223) “Today I will show her my calculations, the figures i've checked and rechecked and checked again, the numbers that say I will have paid off my debt by this time next year.” Lakshmi is working just as hard doing her calculations on when she can get out as every night. Lakshmi is sure of it that if she keeps working as hard as she is now then she will get out of the “Happiness House” sooner or later.…

Sharon Begley in “Happiness: Enough Already” argues that being extremely happy may be a goal of anybody but it also can be “the end of the drive for ever-greater heights of happiness” (455). Begley claims that “being happier is not always better” (455) and an excessive happiness may affect badly to people’s life. She points out that people who reach the highest level of happiness don’t feel motivated to move forward since they are already satisfied. The author goes on insists that happiness does not last long because “negative emotion evolved for a reason” (456). She presents many cases of famous people who experienced negative emotions to create their well-known works showing the need of sadness in every lifetime. Furthermore, people desire to gain more and more happiness causing them the fear to experience sadness. Therefore, what they once considered normal sadness is regarded as a psychiatric illness now. The author then concludes that everything would be much better if “the single-minded pursuit of happiness as an end in itself” (458).…
