The author explains how college student doesn't raise their hand when they have a question and often lead to instructors thinking that the student understands. In addition to that, you have to be motivated and not have a parent or someone telling you to do homework, wake up and etc. Instructor won't care if you come or have some problems as log they get the paycheck. It is up to you to stay motivated and do the task you're supposed to do.
Prerequisite skills are classes that are college level. In order to have prerequisite skills, you have to take a test and determine in whether you need more help in a subject. In colleges, they offer tutoring and classes for you to catch up and not to be put in college level when you still need help on the lower level. On the other hand, college won't care they won’t be on you saying go to class don't be late, they would just drop you out of that class. Instructors won't be your parent or an adviser that would always be on you telling you to do things. College instructors won't care about the personal life of students.
