Is his article “Against School” John Taylor Gatto argues that the current education system is turning people not only into servants and consumers but also childish empty beings who learn to accept things blindly, he states that the idea of compulsory schooling must be forgotten and students should be able to learn things on their own. Is that truly an educated person? Yes, they can solve equations, they are “schooled” but are they educated? So, while we worry about them spending hours playing video games when we think they should be studying, we should ask ourselves why they would rather stair at people being blown up than actually learn something, children don’t stop studying because they’re lazy, they do so because they think they don’t need the information the books are presenting them with, and maybe they’re right. Surely a person would have no qualms learning something they think is useful. The current education system is, in my opinion, filling our heads with just enough information to satisfy our desire to learn and at the same time make us ignorant to the things that really matter, the current world is like a circus act, keeping us content with flashing lights, death defying feats, and magic tricks while at the same time never letting us see what’s really behind t he curtain.
