Build-A-Bear started with a handful of stores and it grew to 150 by the end of 2003. They capitalized on the upward trending consumer demand around the holidays when they would rent space in busy malls for their pop up stores. These temporary stores brought increased revenue and gave the company the idea for its current corporate strategies of expanding to more permanent stores. They had 344 stores in the US, UK, and Canada by 2010. They set goals that would allow a Build-A-Bear store to be within 30 miles of 75% of the US population. Though these new permanent stores usually paid for themselves within the first year their “wow factor” and financial performance quickly diminished time and time again. This no loss expansion worked while saturating the market but was not cutting it when their market further matured. A main reason for the growth is because new stores brought in greater profits which gave the impression that rapid expansion was a wise strategy. They may have expanded too fast though. They lacked the necessary ingredient in producing repeat customers and this was becoming a major problem while strict reliance on overexpansion seemed to be clouding the fact they needed another competitive advantage in the quickly changing toy industry to stay competitive. The real question was how to increase repeat customers and/or increase profitability of their current operating stores. We devised two solutions that could help BearFinancials alleviate…

    Grizzly Bear Diets

For a long time researchers have been trying to retrieve data on Grizzly bear diets. It is clear that all Grizzly bears have different habitats, food sources, and outside pressures such as human development. Although this is true Grizzly bears have been seen to commonly have the same diets over the course of seasonal shifts. For example, Grizzly bear diet and use of seasonally abundant, nutrient-rich food sources has been well documented throughout their range in North America. A wide diversity of foods is consumed, reflecting the species' omnivorous and generalist nature. Food-habit relations are therefore often locally variable, making extrapolations from other populations difficult. Even within a population, annual and seasonal variations in food productivity can alter…

The bear is a creature of immense beauty, power, and majesty and creates an aesthetic appreciation of nature in terms of kinetic pleasures. Oliver does not use elaborate language or complex metaphors, instead she purely observes the common bear and describes its actions in such a way that its simplicity and silence brings wholeness and marvel to the reader, putting the reader in a state of awe and reconciliation of the natural world. Her typography is also important, as it provides a sense of movement before Oliver makes it clear that he is in fact moving down a mountain.…

The Polar Bear (Ursus maritimus) is a bear native largely within the Arctic Circle encircling the Arctic Ocean, its surrounding seas and land masses. Although it is closely related to the Brown Bear, it has evolved to occupy a narrower ecological forte, with many body characteristics adapted for cold temperatures, for moving across snow, ice, and open water, and for hunting the seals which make up most of its diet. Though there are many theories surrounding evolution, the two stand outstanding hypotheses applying to the modification from Brown Bear to Polar Bear are Lamarck’s theory of Use and Disuse, and Darwin’s theory of Natural Selection. The intention of this paper is to compare these thesis and determine the most appropriate in relation this event.…
