Stereotypes Of A Successful College Student

There are several stereotypes of college students: partying, oversleeping, and procrastinating. Although some of these brands may be true, there is a lot more to college students than what meets the eye. Transitioning from high school to college is an immense jump for anyone. While trying to complete this jump, numerous students fall into the typical patterns of a college student; however, there are methods to escape this tragic pit. Some skills that a successful college student may possess include listening attentively, planning effectively, and thinking positively.

Planning is an asset that limits chaos, forgetfulness, misspent time, and lethargy. For example, students can be more focused on assignments and exams instead of worrying about when they will be able to do their laundry. To further elaborate, an author states, “managing [one’s] time helps [him or her] learn more and exert greater control over [his or her] activities and life” (Pohlert 23). More specifically, having certain qualities can make a student’s journey less grueling. Although college is very demanding, scholars can give themselves a new stereotype by using the skills of listening deliberately, planning diligently, and thinking positively. Planning ahead would allow a student to listen more attentively in class because the pupil will have his or her schedule planned. A positive outlook will help scholars accomplish his or her schedule because he or she has a proactive attitude.
