Stem Cells
Stem Cells are fundamentally cell templates. These cell templates are used to create all the cells in our body. Stem cells under the right circumstances are manipulated into other cells, such as mussel cells and liver cells. The thing that makes stem cells so useful is that not only can they become almost any cell in your body but they also have the special characteristics to be able to self re-new or multiplying while still keeping the potential to become useful cells for our body. Research is currently being done to use stem cells for medical applications like replacing damaged tissue, possibly even to re-grow severed limbs for amputees or organs for people who need them because there own ones have failed them. Also with feather research we may be able to re-grow whole limbs and organs. The benefit of being able to heal damaged cell, is that it can improve the mortality rate
Moral point against Stem Cells:
It is argued that, because stem cells are mostly harvested from un-born foetuses which is considered “murder” by some. These people most likely also are against abortion, which is the main source of foetuses used for research. it is believed by some people that as soon as the ova has been fertilised by the sperm that is is alive. This belief contradicts the accepted theory that once the foetus has a heart beat it is alive. A foetus only has a heart beat around 6~8 weeks into the pregnancy. This is a large gap as people in most places can legally get an abortion in the first 6 ~ 8 weeks of pregnancy but not after the 8th week. However some groups belief that sense the ova is fertilised and the foetus is alive that its should not be allowed to have a termination at any point during the pregnancy. To do the majority of stem cell research it is necessary to have the abortion so that the stem cells can be extracted from the bone marrow of the foetus. Because groups of people belief that abortion is wrong, stem cell research progresses
