A simple picture with enthusiastic dancers that I received during a college talk captures what I want out of college: a place where I can let go of my inhibitions and find fulfillment in anything that strikes my fancy, somewhere I can immerse myself in the multitude of opportunities and activities available and experience the magic captured by that picture.…

Dance. How can you survive a University with what people think is an easy major. If you ask someone who has zero dance experience, I bet seventy-five percent of the time people are going to say that it is an easy subject. When someone says that it is easy, I laugh at them and tell them that they have no idea on what they are talking about. There is technique that you have to learn, movements that your body does not want to do because it is not used to it. Then the sense of rhythm that need to be on point for the actions. It is harder than it sounds. When you first start dancing you break down the mussels and then build them back up to gain more muscle. I also laugh when athletes say that Dance is not a sport. I tell them to go to a dance class for a day and see if they…

Finney, who sat on a large leather wingback chair in front of me,used a beautiful analogy of fishing with her grandma and putting the fish back into the pond similar to how as humans we need to put something back into the world to describe how students should put their passions to use. A student asked Ms. Finney a question that I believe is not only important for college age students to understand, but also for anyone who is currently unhappy with their career. The student essentially asked “how do you balance pursuing your dreams while also maintaining basic needs of life such as food, shelter, and health insurance”. Ms. Finney explained how it does not need to be either or. We can still be an artist as well as an entrepreneur and we can incorporate our art form into our life, however we need to be an artist with a plan. As a student pursuing both of his passions, her response allowed me to relate to Ms. Finney on a more personal level and allowed me appreciate her poetry more than I previously…
