Statement Of Purpose: I Am In The Cadet Program

Hello sir/ma’am! Sgt Cheung, Aidan here. I have been in the cadet program for over four years and beginning my fifth year. I joined cadets because I had other friends who were interested in joining the program as well and I would not feel alone. During my starting years in the cadet program, the only time I felt excited was in band. I enjoy music as a passion and was musically influenced since taking piano lessons at the age of five. The lessons taught on Monday nights did not really engage me but I still pay attention in class. Drill was a subject that I disliked as it involves movement and making sure fundamentals such as keeping in step and dressing. Well first I commit to cadets by attending every Monday night and team practices unless I have a school activity to attend to or info sessions about my future education. I answer the questions the fellow cadets have for me. I would help the officers whenever they needed. I always get my tasks done in a quick and efficient way such as cleaning up the armoury. Some aspects of being a FSgt is of course taking on a leadership role. I have just started being a fully-fledged senior NCO so it may be hard for me at first but I will always do my best. Being a leader includes looking for the safety of others, take responsibility for your own team, speak out your own concerns to the cadets and be a role model to the younger cadets. Some traits I believe a FSgt should have are having morals, not being biased (treat everyone equally), have confidence in everything you do, be organized, and get things done. I will follow these conducts of a good leader and be a FSgt everyone looks up to. There are also things that I need to work on such as projecting my voice and don’t get things done last minute, do them way before the deadline. I will start learning how to be a proper leader to fellow cadets and get to know my level 4 cadets better. Their strengths, weaknesses, and passion. I will definitely always ask the officers if they need help with anything. As well, following the traits and aspects I believe is in an outstanding leader. I will continue to stay in the band, VFP, Duke of Edinburgh and rejoin effective speaking. I will also be joining the rifle team and maybe drill
