Stardust Book Vs Movie Analysis
Many people feel that book to movie adaptations give the readers a chance to connect with the characters and visualize what happens in the book. While many others believe that many important things that happen in the book may be left out or altered, changing the plot of the book entirely. One of these book to movie adaptations being Stardust by Neil Gaiman. After reading Stardust by Neil Gaiman and watching the movie “Stardust” 3 differences that impact the plot directly would be the role the lightning pirates play, Tristran did not tying the star to the tree, and in Dunstan telling Tristran about his faerie heritage right before he began his quest. In the movie however,Dunstan tells him about his mother being from faerie and gives him the Babylon Candle (which was a gift from his mother) altering Tristran’s journey entirely. First off, the movie takes away the dramatic irony that the book had, because the readers knew who his mother was but Tristran did not. Tristran then uses the candle to go to faerie to at first meet his mother,but at the last second he thinks of the star and instantly teleported to her instead. Finding his mother was ultimately the reason why he wanted to go to faerie, he just happened to go to the star instead. This instant teleportation to the star takes away Tristran’s entire journey through faerie. The is no little man helping him get to the star and there is Dunstan talking to the guards to let Tristran go to faerie. Tristran's entire journey to find the star is completely lost in the movie. The shorter journey leads to Tristran not getting the full fairy experience, which is most likely the reason that him and Yvaine don't go off traveling before taking the throne like they do in the book.
