Spring Break Essay
Dylan Farmer
1/24/2012
English 101

Spring break is mainly a time of partying for most teenagers that go to my high school, but I was off to California with my girlfriend’s family to pretty much explore a whole other side of the U.S. California is the place that every person and the world wants to go for their spring break. I was very happy that my girlfriend’s mom is a travel agent, so we got a pretty good deal for the prices of our flight and on the hotel prices. Just for extra fun we drove to Chicago and stayed there for two nights. We explored downtown Chicago, all the amazing buildings. We even got to go into the old Sears Tower, which was something that I think everyone needs to see. It's probably one of the best sights I've ever seen, other than the fact I've only seen a good view going down Quincy hill near my hometown. I forgot to mention that when we left for our flight to California that was going to be my first time ever flying on an airplane. It was very exciting to fly, especially since it was going to be a long three hour flight. I felt like a little kid again when the flight attendant gave me my wings for flying for my first time. Not all people in the world get to experience flying, so I thought I was pretty lucky to get to enjoy this experience. We arrived in Los Angeles, California. The hotel we stayed in was one of the best hotels I've ever been in. This hotel was so big and fancy, and the weight room that was there was bigger than the fitness center back home. This hotel also had two pools. The outdoor pool looked really beautiful, because it had a giant water fall leading into the pool, but it was closed down while we were was staying there, so I just used the normal everyday hotel pool, which was indoors. It was very incredible to see something like this on how beautiful a single hotel could be, and look. Exploring the streets of California was really fun. I adventured through the fashion district, which has a lot of cheap

On February 20 2012, me and my daughter went to the Gates Planetarium in Denver to see the showing of the Wildest Weather in the Solar System. The first thing we did was to walk around the Space Odyssey and explore some of the exhibit they had. Then we went to see the show which I must say was far more thrilling then I or my daughter could have imagined.…

Prior to European exploration, there were already many other explorations going around the world. For example, we have the Vikings of which people have theorized that they indeed discovered America centuries before Columbus actually did. There is one further piece of evidence that displays even more people discovered America before Columbus: Chinese pottery that were not indigenous to the people at the time. However, even though Columbus did not discover the Americas first, European Exploration still had a more immense impact within their world and our modern world today.…

The Dominican Republic, Punta Cana Is one of the most glorious places I've ever had ever visited; I felt like I was in a lush tropical island paradise. After getting off, the plane walking into a hut of an airport, I felt excited and nervous to be in a foreign country. My husband and I were greeted upon arrival to the resort with a cold washcloth and a glass of champagne, I felt like a queen. A couple of days later we had a Remarriage vow ceremony for our fifteen wedding anniversary on the beach. Everything…

The room was very bright and felt very tropical. Once we got unpacked, we went down to the beach and ate lunch. After lunch, we saw two of my aunts and their families. Then, we went swimming in the ocean, the pools and laid on the beach. By supper time everyone had arrived. We spent most of our days eating together, swimming, playing beach volleyball, and laying on the beach. I got to spend my birthday in Punta Cana and I got to go on a catamaran, on a banana boat tube pulled by a boat with my cousins, and we had a special dinner at the Italian restaurant on the resort for me. My family and I were also there for the Super Bowl. They had a huge inflatable screen that they projected the game on. They had huge buffet of food and workers on the resort dressed like football players. My brother and my dad are Denver Broncos fans, so they were very happy with the result of the…

After Big Sur and spending the night in Pacifica we went further north to San Francisco. When we spent the night in Pacifica our hotel was right near the ocean. It was such a beautiful view to wake up to. I just absolutely love the sound of the ocean. In San Francisco we went over the Golden Gate Bridge. It was a pretty cool thing to see with the views of San Francisco and the ocean. We then went to the park across from the Painted Ladies. The Painted Ladies are the houses that appear in the background of the opening of the original Full House series. It was an awesome thing to go see as I grew up watching Full House and will still watch it from time to time. Once we were done at the park we went to the San Francisco Giants stadium. Although…

When I was ten years old, my parents told me we were moving the California. I was absolutely thrilled. California was purely an abstract and conceptual mirage-type of place, too far away to know where it was, and too far away to really understand. The magical land of celebrities, skyscrapers and colossal burgers. A place where everything was possible, where dreams could actually become true, and where you had the ability to do what you wanted and be happy. This naive and unrealistic vision of California has affected my childhood so much that it is, in many aspects, still is part of me today. I discover new things everyday about this place with the same childish enthusiasm that I did the first day I arrived. I still gasp everytime I see the Hollywood sign, enjoy going to…

It was a 3-day weekend or someday in my senior year of high school that I was able to persuade my mother to let me go to Irvine Spectrum with friends on a Friday afternoon. This was the last couple times that I could hang-out with my high school friends before we walked our way to the graduation; we better did something fun! However, there was really nothing, yes, nothing,…

We finally made it to Hinton, West Virginia, home of Bluestone State Park. It felt weird not being at home, surrounded by my pets, and loud noises throughout the night. We checked in at the office once we arrived to the campgrounds and headed for the cabins. It felt amazing to get out of the area I was used to and spend time with my family, doing something we loved. I was so excited to see the cabin and the deer wondering out in the tall, grassy fields. It was around seven and it was starting to get dark so we decided to grill some hamburgers and hope that no wild animals would come and try to have dinner with us. Before we knew it, bedtime was just around the corner. The next morning at the breakfast table, I suggested going down to the lake and fishing instead of going hiking considering it was nice and warm outside.…

I went to Niagara Falls with my grandparents, about a week after I got back from Washington D.C. So on a Saturday, I packed my clothes and items I wanted to bring with on this fascinating road trip, and put them in the car. We drove up to New Buffalo beach and spent about four hours there. Then we hit the road for an eight hour drive. We stopped places along the way to Canada, but my favorite was the Thomas Edison Museum. I learned a lot about Edison's' life.…

There were lots of famous pieces and it was very interesting. There were lots of paintings of past U.S presidents and I got to see many of Abraham Lincoln. San Francisco is one of North America’s most vibrant and robust cities. Located on the west coast of the United States of America, and only about a six to seven hour flight from Calgary, San Francisco is well-known for its great climate, lively culture, and outstanding world-renowned landmarks. With the above in mind, there are two basic reasons of why one should visit San Francisco. First, the city offers many unique attractions in the form of breathtaking parks, beaches, world class museums, sports, recreation, performing arts, and landmarks. Theses attractions are plenty and thus cater to many different tastes and preferences. Second, San Francisco is a relatively inexpensive tourist destination. Therefore, one should visit San Francisco because of the numerous attractions offered, and because it is relatively an inexpensive destination.…
