Spotless Mind Techniques
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind incorporates many stylistic strategies to convey the central message over to its audience. The science fiction aspect of the movie, which was being able to erase someone from a person’s memory, incorporated with the dramatic aspect, made the film make more sense in regards to time. I was very confused after watching this movie for the first time, but after the second time, many revelations came forth and I saw what certain things really meant, why some things were said, and what events took place at what times which enabled me to determine the theme. This film forces it’s analyzer to focus on minute details because of its complex story line. The smallest and shortest lines connects the movie the second time it is watched. The deep plot and intimate situations demonstrate to the audience the main theme that they are supposed to be focused on. The film’s interesting strategies such as, foreshadowing, a backwards movie plot, camera placement, and repeating key phrases and scenes all play a part in the theme. Through these strategies was the director able to express the theme of fate and how people are destined to be together.
In the beginning, the audience is introduced to Joel then Clementine.

It is evident that the audience must learn something about love and open heartedness. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind expresses that love and destiny are a theme because of two primary examples. Joel and Clem, and Mary and Howard. Joel and Clem are destined for each other. Both of these lovers got their memories erased of the other, yet they still remained in contactr in the end. They were soul mates in the beginning. Even though they broke up at one and point and had an uncertain agreement to a relationship in the end, the fact they met each other after the whole ordeal proves that something is there between

I want to write about the film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind for my second essay. To be more specific, I want to analyze the two relationships that occur between the protagonists Joel and Clementine as well as Mary and Dr. Mierzwaik. I want to discuss the failure of Dr. Mierzwaik’s memory removal procedure. Although Dr. Mierzwaik’s procedure removes certain memories, it fails to completely remove one’s feelings. Additionally, the memory removal procedure takes the characters backwards, rather than helping them move on as they eventually find themselves attracted to each other once again. Therefore, history seems to be inevitably destined to repeat itself and erasing one’s memory cannot eradicate one’s feelings. Ultimately, I…

For 20 years, I sought only this day. Nothing else existed... until I saw you. Then everything changed. I fell in love with you Evey. And to think I no longer believed I could.“ This quote shows us that V has finally regained the ability to love, which is something he thought has long been lost. This is due to his frightening and struggle filled love which he thought had rid him of all emotion but hate. This change shows us that the relationship between Evey and V has allowed V to regain the emotion of love which also means he has regained his humanity and no longer lives only for hate and revenge. I believe the director used these film techniques on purpose to show to the viewers that the relationship between Evey and V has drastically changed both of their personalities and has influenced many of their actions during their time together. This teaches us that it is in our human nature to trust someone who has been with you through everything and it is also in our nature to want to spend our last moments with the people that we love. This act of human nature is seen through both our main characters, V and…

Are they really meant to be together? Well, honestly I think that the book does not want them to be together, but their love is so strong that the book has no other choice then to keep them together. If they did not keep them together the fan base would be extremely mad. If I was the man in black I would of just said “Screw It. She is not worth it.” But it would not of been much of a book if he would of done that.…

These themes are significant to society because many people can relate to them through experience. The theme of love is extremely important in Emma and Rick’s search for identity. This is because it helps change their mindsets and their career. The symbolism of hope is a clear indication that in the end love will prevail and there is hope for future generations. This message is what Toby’s socialist views originally reflected when he states, ‘I realised the dream of peace, love and understanding was over long ago’, demonstrating his loss of hope for the future of society. In the opinions of Rick and Emma this isn’t the case, instead there is still hope for future generations, shown through their message for Toby at the end of the play. This is also displayed through the title of the play Let the Sunshine which is also the name of a 1960’s pop culture song symbolising peace and love. The depiction of themes by David Williamson has made the play contemporary and significant to audiences…

Throughout the many genres of filming, D.W Griffiths’ (David Llewelyn Wark) film, Intolerance (1916) encouraged the beginning of a unique genre of filming; Art House. Art house film’s individuality of filming is targeted at a smaller market audience. Unlike Hollywood cinema, Art house uses a unique strategy of capturing the audience by crossing boundaries and making the basis of the storylines harder to predict, leaving the audience puzzled throughout, and usually after the film has ended. The tale of Joel and Clementine in the film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind shows the director Michael Gondry’s ability to withhold the events of a unique romance and shape it into a genre of Art house through its representations and languages.…

For instance, because they are noticing the love, they put their own relationships under a microscope: “The first time was with a girl in my class at school and I suppose it was a bit of a trial run, really, I mean I’m not altogether sure how much I was feeling it but it seemed quite important when it was going on” (Lively 25). When reading this passage in your head, you can almost sense the doubt and unsureness. Also, there is the fact that the narrator then take themselves into perspective: “I’m not that good-looking myself, only a B+” (Lively 25). This passage reveals that they may be thinking of the love the couple that they are watching invalidates all the love that they have had or may ever have. Until the narrator of this story sees the couple the story is centered around, they believe they know what love is but, the couple makes them second guess if they have really ever experienced it…

If I were to tell of one event that someone would ask me to share, you know for the good of mankind thing, I would say, "Have you ever met a Dragon before?" Quite possibly you have, maybe in a past life, which is your queue to say, "yeah, right Sarah nobody believes in reincarnation any more, at least normal people don't." It's funny because neither did I: that was before I went off to college. I love the word normal because it puts everything you've ever learned on the line and tests it to your new experiences; let's face it people normal is all in your mind.…
