Speech Pathologist Personal Statement
Looking at my reasons for embarking in this program overall, has been rather interesting to me. After graduating from my High School in the Bronx, I barely had any knowledge of what the Speech & Language field was all about. I was first introduced to it by a close friend whose stepmother worked as a Speech pathologist in New York City. She had mentioned how she became interested in the field, and even suggested it to me. I was going to come into the University at Buffalo undecided, but the minute she told me about this field I was captivate. I decided to do some research, and gain knowledge on what the major was all about and the different directions that one can take when working in this field. I am someone who has always loved to eventually work with children, so this field became even more interesting when I knew that working with children was a possibility. After finally deciding to make Speech and Hearing Sciences my major, I began the journey of really learning in detail what hopefully my future working life style will be like. Entering this journey, I was able to learn about all of the different subjects that go into the Speech and Hearing field.

I want to be able to offer my great knowledge and experiences, to one day improve the lives of so many little ones. I have loved working with children from a very young age, ever since I had to technically help my parents with raising my own siblings. And I have had the privilege to currently be employed in a daycare where I am able to work with kids, and observe them in there most natural state. I even find it funny when I catch my self observing these toddlers and preschooler’s speech when they are having a regular conversation; as I try to listen for any misarticulated sounds. Now it has become a natural instinct of mine when I am around
