How Has the Internet Changed the Way We Do Creative Research and Scholarship? Ladies and Gentlemen, I have come here today to talk to you about the effects of the internet on the education of your children. Although most of you probably see the internet as having a negative impact on today’s youth, I will discuss both the positive and the negative attributes of the internet. I assure you that the motive of this speech is not to convince you or in any way persuade you to think differently, but simply to present both sides of this intriguing argument to you. The biggest advantage of the utilization of the internet in education is the simplicity. For a person who has even the slightest of knowledge within the field of technology, the internet is the simplest and easiest way to carry out research. Instead of going to a library and searching through dozens of books to find an answer, children can now find out exactly the same things simply by clicking a few buttons. Did you know that there are around one hundred and sixty million websites dedicated to the sole purpose of education? This is a comforting number when considering the possibilities of online studying, and although many of them are probably mediocre, these websites make life a lot easier for students at this age. Using the internet therefore saves a considerable amount of time, of which we seem to have so little of these days. Not only does it save loads of time, but also and effort. Instead of making them bring home heavy textbooks that take up half of their room, or buying expensive encyclopedias for an overflowing school library, we can let them access all this information on the school computers or at home. Some experts also claim that the internet is a great way to stimulate communication or interaction with other children. Although children are at home, they are able to communicate with others, especially aiding shy children who would not communicate with their peers if they didn’t use the
