Keeping love a reality is never simple. Conceivable that living will ultimately be destroyed, but does love? Moments in time pass and so do days. It is in "Sonnet 18", that we see an ultimation to the concept that love that is limited. He has a special way of keeping passion a reality in "Sonnet 18", and he uses many different expertise to show how passion is more remarkable and endless than a summer's day.

The first expertise he uses to show endless love is to ask many questions like "Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?" Is love as radiant and exquisite as a summer's day? These questions are answered in the second line with "Thou art more lovely and more temperate." This shows that the individual the narrator is appreciative is more lovely, quiet and empathetic than a summer's day. The summer is important to the individual being respected, and the

Summer days are restricted; they are limited and will end. During the summer the sun is shining hot right above us all. He uses the expertise of an allegory in line five and six: "Sometimes too hot the eye of heaven shines, / and often is his gold complexion dimmed." This reference of a person potential to creation shows he use of allegory as a way of characterization. It generates the impression that everything in the summer's solstice ultimately loses its attractiveness and dies. As wonderful as this glorious radiance may feel and as deep as we desire to be blessed. The narrator's thinks that the attractiveness of the individual he respects is above the sheltered summer day. All the equality of the summer becomes gloomy and bleak, identical to what will be at the end of the

When most people hear the word “Spring” they think of a typical Sleeping Beauty situation, the birds are chirping and the flowers are blooming. It is always a cheerful time coming out of winter, but for the narrator in Williams's Spring and All, spring is a dreadful time of sorrow and death. Gluck’s For Jane Meyers focuses on a more positive tone, describing a kid excited for the coming of spring so much than he could just die. These two poems use numerous instances of imagery to illustrate the worst and best qualities of spring. In Spring and All, the poem focuses on the dull, sluggish qualities of spring as it is arriving, and For Jane Meyers, holds the tone of spring as a beautiful and exciting.…

For about as long as anyone’s been writing anything, the seasons have stood for the same set of meanings. Maybe it's hard-wired into us that spring has to do with childhood and youth, summer with adulthood and romance and fulfillment and passion, autumn with decline and middle age and tiredness but also harvest, winter with old age and resentment and death. In Venus, it rains every single day except for once every seven years. For two hours after seven years, the sun finally comes out again but not for an entire day. Margot, the main character of the story misses the sun so much that she has fallen into some sort of depression because of the absence of the sun. Love, Not Life, Lasts Forever In William Shakespeare?s Sonnet "73," the speaker invokes a series of metaphors to characterize the nature of his old age. The structure of the sonnet also contributes to the meaning of the poem. In the first quatrain, there is the final season of a year; then, in the second quatrain, only the final hours of a day; and then, in the third quatrain, the final minutes of a fire, before the couplet resolves the argument. The metaphors begin in the first quatrain and continue throughout the sonnet, as one by one they are destroyed, just like the life that is being spoken about. This poem is not simply a procession of interchangeable metaphors; it is the story of the speaker slowly realizing the finality of his life and his impermanence in time. Through the use of the structure of "Sonnet 73" and the metaphors that describe the speaker?s death, Shakespeare conveys that while life may be short, if one can love during that lifetime, that love can live forever.…

On the other hand, the mood of “Sonnet 30” makes the reader feel depressed and at some point loveless. Also, another difference between the sonnets is the tone of each. In “Sonnet 18”, a” lovely” and “temperate” (Line 2) tone is emitted yet, the tone of “Sonnet 30” is cheerless and painful as expressed in “even as I speak, for lack of love alone.”, “Yet many a man is making friends with death”. Moreover, the different respective themes of the sonnets show a great difference between William Shakespeare’s and Edna St. Vincent Millay’s perception of love. The theme of “Sonnet 18” is “the ephemeral nature of beauty.” This theme is expressed in “But thy eternal summer […] to time thou grow'st” (Line 9-12). Conversely, the theme of “Sonnet 30”, is, the importance of love for human beings. This theme is uttered in the axiom, “Love is not all: It is not meat nor drink.” The message of “Sonnet 18” is that poetry immortalizes beauty, expressed in “But thy eternal summer shall not fade” (Line 9), while the message of “Sonnet 30” is love is not essential for human beings yet, people lack of it mentioned in “Yet many a man is making friends with death” (Line 7). Concluding, “Sonnet 18” by William Shakespeare is written in a classical style due to…

“All summer in a day” is a short story by Ray Bradbury about people living on the planet Venus and the weather conditions they live with. One might ask for the purpose of why Bradbury would write such a depressing and saddening story. The reason for that is to stress his audience of the importance of the little things in our everyday lives. We tend to take things for granted and lose our appreciation for them but do not stop to notice how important they are and how big of a role they play on our lives. If we all took a moment in every day to stop and think about the things we are grateful for it would all in all impact ourselves, the people around us, and the world as a whole in a beneficial way.…

In lines three and four the speaker begins to talk about nature. In other words, all the talking he is doing is about a summers day actually sounds like he’s talking about a person. The point in these lines is clear the summer is fated to end. As we go on to read lines five and six he goes on to talk about the personification of nature. He refers the sun to the “the eye of heaven” and instead of being boring and dull he compares his skin to a gold complexion entertaining us as the readers more and keeps us entertained. This is important because it describes the way he looks. It brings back the humor that we saw he used with the word “temperate.”…

William Shakespeare, in his sonnet, “Sonnet 97” laments about how being separated from his lover feels like winter, no matter what season it may be. First, to reveal the feeling of loss caused by the separation from his lover, Shakespeare employs simile: “How like a winter hath my absence been/ From thee”; second, Shakespeare uses visual and tactile imagery to reiterate the sense of winter already established by stating, “what freezings have I felt, what dark days seen!” ; third, Shakespeare compares “this time remov'd”: the time he and his lover were apart, to “widow'd wombs after their lord's decease” in order to amplify the grief he is experiencing and indicate that this is no regular loss; next, Shakespeare uses descriptive details to describes…

But I want to think a little about summer. Why do we like it so much and cherish it’s every day? Why does it so much influence our mood? Summer comes every year like an award for the long and cold winter that we’ve managed to withstand. It’s my way of seeing it, of course, you may not agree with me. We like the sun, it’s warm and bright rays that are meeting us every summer morning, we’re fond of sunsets that stay in our memory for long time. It’s great time of camping weekends, holidays on the sea-shore and long evening walks in the city parks. I like that trees and grass are so emerald green, I like azure blue sky and light clouds…

    Emily Dickinson Mortality

    • 948 Words

The author appears to chronologically review the stages of her life: childhood, symbolized by the “school where children played”, maturity symbolized by the ripe, “gazing” grain, and the descent into death symbolized by the “setting sun”. She conveys her feeling of being outside time and change, for she corrects herself to say she “passed the setting sun”, as it of course does all who are in the grave. This emphasizes the dichotomy existing between linear and cyclical time, mortality and immortality. The speaker, in correcting herself, may have come to understand that whereas the sun, depicting circular time, will keep revolving, her own journey is destined to come to an abrupt, irreversible halt. It is here that the speaker realizes the significance of time, however she does not seem to view her demise as funereal. Dictional elements in stanza five hint at unpreparedness for death. She realises what time of day it is and experiences a chill because she is not warmly dressed, as she is adorned in a “sheer tippet” and “gown”. With the coming of evening, a coolness had fallen for which the speaker found herself unprepared with regard to clothing. In fact, her garments were more appropriate for a wedding, representing a new beginning, than for a funeral, representing an end. This signifies the speaker's unwavering belief that although death is abrupt, it is virtuous, and is a celebratory condition. She appeared to be optimistic about her ultimate fate, and viewed Death as a friend. It is in these stanzas that she is reminiscing about a time that felt so near but was so…

He starts of by immediately bringing the reader in the environment of fall. He gives the reader the imagery that his age is like the season fall where “few” leaves hang. Then he tells us how is age is like “the twilight of such day”. Finally, the author compares himself to a fire and that is ashes would be considered his youth. Through all these descriptions I think that it is safe to say that the reader can conclude that the age of the author is properly very old. I get the sense of imagery that if a few leaves hang then that the author will properly need assistance living soon in order to help his life to keep going. When he says that his age is like the “twilight of such day” it gives the reader the opinion that the reader is so old that very little “light” or energy remains. With all that being said the reader can imagine via imagery that the author is very old and properly wore…

The poem places us in the middle of the golden glow of spring sunrise while reminding us that such beauty is only temporary. The speaker uses figurative languages, like personification and metaphors, to talk about nature. That means that what the speaker is talking about can be broadened to figuratively say something about human beings. In the first line, he starts off talking about nature “green is gold” which is a metaphor. This makes us know that spring and nature is usually associated with the color green. But he also twists it to show that spring is actually more gold than green. Line two, uses personification to talk about nature. It refers to nature as “her” and says she finding it difficult to hold onto her gold. Line 6 uses biblical allusion to refer to nature. The Garden of Eden was a beautiful perfect natural…

Shakespeare’s Sonnet 18 is one of his most popular sonnet ever to be written. Shakespeare 's Sonnet 18 at first glance looks to be a love poem but is actually about the speaker glorifying himself. How does the speaker try to immortalize his love through poetry? The speaker states how beautifully unceasing his love is by comparing the love to a summer day. Then the speaker goes on to state how his loves beauty is everlasting unlike the summer. The speaker continues on to say how he will be able to immortalize his love by putting him in the poem. He believes his poetry is going to be read through history hence immortalizing his love. Instead of being about love its more so on the point of his own talent as a writer and his talent leading to the immortalization.…
