Solo And Ensemble Competition
One of my proudest accomplishments I have achieved in my life was receiving my first superior rating in the Solo and Ensemble competition in 9th grade. The Solo and Ensemble competition is where students are able to form small groups or remain solo and perform a piece of music for an adjudicator. In my group with a cello, viola, and violins I was performing as one of the two violins. I remember my group would rehearse everyday at school for a couple months and would work hard each time to sound better. I also put in lots of practice outside of school to achieve an exceptional sound in order for our group to sound best as possible. When it came time to perform at the Solo and Ensemble competition our group had sounded even better than when

Being a part of so many great organizations, for example SMAC (Stillwater Makes a Change) and Youth Leadership Oklahoma, has not compared to being a part of Pink Out week at Stillwater High School. So far, I believe that my greatest accomplishment has been being a Co-head of Pink Out week. Pink Out has helped me grow so much as a leader and has taught me how to execute large scale events. It has also been my biggest impact on the community.…

When I was in seventh grade, my middle school participated in a very well-known science fair competition in Los Angeles County. The fair showcased projects done by students all over the county, and only a few of the best students were chosen as winners. The winners, depending on the grade level, won cash prizes, medals, and even scholarship offers. As most people would be, I was really enthusiastic that I got an opportunity to participate in such a rigorous event.…

This is my second year on the Peabody Magnet High Soccer team, and I was even awarded the Coach’s award for playing midfield and made honorably mention in my district ranking. I also am the Co-Captain of the Peabody Flag line. Being on the soccer and flag teams taught me that hard work really pays off and really forced me to challenge myself. When the flag line first started, we did not have a coach or experience. Although we taught ourselves our own routines, techniques and twirls; we placed and won a 3rd place trophy in our first battle of the bands competition. It was the smallest trophy there, but it meant more to me than any big one could. It just proved to me again that if I put my mind to something I could accomplish…

One of my most defining experiences to date has been my involvement with the colorguard squad at my school. The colorguard squad is an auxiliary unit that is part of the marching band. We perform with the band at Friday night football games during halftime while spinning flags and rifles to the music. To me, colorguard is so much more than that. Freshman year when I went to tryouts I was terrified. I did not have any friends trying out with me; I was walking into a gym full of older girls whom I had never met. To my surprise, being on the squad for the past three years has been such a defining achievement during high school for me. Without the squad I would have had a completely different experience in school. I learned the value of hard work…

Whether it being onstage in my school's production of High School Musical or being in a crowd of other classmates playing my saxophone with my best friend during a band concert. Weather singing in my school choir or yelling loud at a cheer competition I became engulfed in the conversation between audience and performer, and through these performances I have made blissful memories. I would not have the opportunity I have today if it weren't for Mrs. Harvey, my 8th grade choir teacher, demanding that I audition for our middle school honor choir. I never would have known the love and the passion that I have for music and I would not be the person I am today.…

Success is portrayed differently in each person’s mind. However, to be successful, you have to have the drive to achieve that rank. In my church youth group there was always a music competition between the other churches in the tri-state area. It was my last year in the program, so I decided to enter under advanced percussion. The day I signed up was the day I started to write. The competition was months away, but I wanted to get ahead of the game so I can keep my first place title. By the time the competition came around, I had my whole piece written and hours of practice behind me. That constant drive kept me on my toes for this competition because I wanted to be the first place winner. My drive wouldn’t let me settle for second place due to the fact that I wanted to be…

My music performance career made a debut when I was very young. The church was my first audience when I began to fall in love with the stage. I always took pride in singing in Christmas and Easter programs, and I eventually went on to sing solos. Until middle school, church was my sole outlet for music performance. However, in middle school, I decided to join choir and band. My life suddenly became filled with concerts, honor bands, and other performances. I consider these the moments that I really began to learn what performance was all about. Music has helped me learn many important life lessons that make me the person I am today. At first I was not doing my best, and I knew I could be better if I stayed in it. Luckily, I had a great coach. Every year he took at least one pole vaulter to state in La-Crosse. By my senior year of high school I had the most determination out of anyone to make it to state and to make it on the podium. Since my coaches believed in me, I did just that. I made it to state and took second out of 16 other vaulters. Determination had led me there, and it put me on the podium. I scored eight points for my team. We ended up taking second place overall by two points.…

When I was about five years old I did my first ballet recital. I was doing the recital with my best friend Emma because we took ballet classes together. It was Easter at the time so the theme of the recital was bunny. We wore bunny ears and pastel pink tutus, and I knew we looked beautiful. I was confident that I was a good dancer, but I probably was not as good as I theorized. I had a wonderful time doing ballet with Emma. At the end of the recital Emma and I got roses and lots of hugs. After the recital my family and I went to a restaurant called Jimmy Max. I have lots of fond memories of my first recital…

The many hours of practice, months and months of nitpicking each and every note, along with learning the rhythms and the dynamics had benefited me during my audition. I was ready for my first ever district band audition, so I thought. Sophomore year was one of those years where I thought I knew what I was doing, but in reality I had no idea. I was starting to find where I fit in and who my friends would be for the remaining years of high school. These friends happened to have the similar interests as I did, music. Being one giant band family, we all supported and helped each other. Just the year before I had grown quite a bit as a player and succeeded in making the Derby High School Wind…
