Soft Skills
Companies look for many different kinds of skills and experience depending on the business it’s in. I believe employers, companies, and the leaders in my industry of work, care about soft skills like writing because they want to see if you’re eligible of the position. Soft skills are referred to personal qualities, habits, and attitudes that make someone a good employee and a compatible worker. The important thing is to understand why soft skills are important to your career success. (Han, 2011) Like Han said in her article, “What soft skills do you already posses and which ones do you want to develop next?” (Hand, 2011)
Like my job, at first I started as housekeeping, honestly not everybody can be a housekeeper either. You have to be honest, respectful, and have a positive attitude when in housekeeping. When you clean rooms some people leave tips and to be honest person, you have to bring the tips to the front desk. Also, you must me respectful to people’s belongings and are positive when cleaning rooms because you do come upon dirty nasty stuff. While do housekeeping I would like to develop more soft skills like time management and mentoring skills. These two skills would come in handy and wouldn’t have any issues in the long wrong. There are days where it takes a bit longer to clean a room and in reality it should have taken less time. Then, with the mentoring, it be good to be like a leader for the others who are much younger than me and would look up to me as well.
Now that I’ve moved up to front desk position; respect, positive attitude, time management, self-confidence, and of course writing are important soft skills. No matters how disrespectful a guest or person who comes in the door is you always have to smile. Like my co-workers say, kill them with kindness. Time management is a very well key at the front desk because when you’re busy with check-ins you might also have to do laundry, make coffee, stock up on supplies in the breakfast nook.
