Having a president with no party affiliation, would mean candidates would have a difficult time raising money for their campaigns. Money is important for elections to help influence and mobilize voters (Kernell, et al.). Campaigning for presidency is a money contest between each candidate and party. For example, the last election Trump was able to spend so much of his personal money to get what he wanted and did not have to rely as much on donors. Modern campaigns are based on technology such as television, internet, radio, and social media (Kernell, et al.). Despite its importance, technology is expensive, which means candidates need an exorbitant amount of money to have a successful presidential campaign. Although, there are regulations on funding during elections, the Supreme Court ruled that the government cannot create laws restricting how much an individual can contribute (Kernell, et al.).
