My stomach was in knots the night before my first ever interview as I contemplated what I had to offer with little experience outside of babysitting and raking leaves. Although I landed the opportunity, I found myself full of hesitation the night before beginning my serving assistant job. My family taunted me by referring to my new job as the Assistant to the Assistant Server referring to the T. V. show “The Office”. In the end, the teasing helped diffuse my nervousness.…

The use of social media such as Twitter or Facebook is counter-productive in the workplace for a number of reasons. Firstly, it creates a needless distraction for the employee during office work hours, and can lead to some workers to become blasé about it. Secondly, the viewing of otherwise unappealing content on either Facebook or Twitter can make some people distressed, uneasy or annoyed, and could lower the productivity and attentiveness if an employee was to become affected by either comments or images posted on social media. However, to avoid employee dissatisfaction, social media should be allowed on lunch breaks, as some workers may have important news that they may have to respond to, such as news on a sick family member or spouse,…

It was in the muggy day in the middle of July and I was stuck outside watching a bunch of bratty kids run around in the woods playing tag and hide and seek. A few months earlier, I was applying for the Camp Counselor job at the M.E Lyons YMCA, which would be my first job. In the beginning of the summer, I had no idea that being a counselor would be extremely challenging, but very rewarding in the end.…

My punctuality, attention to detail, and people skills are what make me an excellent office administrative assistant. First of all, I hate being late to anything. I strive to be on time, or early, in appropriate situations. When I know that I will be unable to attend or have no control over being late, I am prompt to notify the individuals I am on my way to see. It is very rare that I am tardy to any scheduled meetings. Secondly, I strive to have an excellent attention to detail. Some would say I am a perfectionist with my work. I look projects over dozens of times before handing them in, and make sure that everything is up to my standard. I proofread very well, and I am usually the one people come to for editing advice. Lastly, I have wonderful…

While being a camp counselor is extremely challenging, and some might look down on the fact that I have spent my summers working at a summer camp instead of interning or having a job that pays more. The truth is I would not have spent my summers anywhere else, being able to help build and shape these kids minds in a positive way was the biggest reward. Seeing the change in each child from June to August made me want to wake up and do this everyday no matter what challenge could be presented . My summers as a camp counselor helped me realize that teaching is what I want to do for the rest of my…

When the realization that my final days of high school were vastly approaching, I began to ask myself what I would do with my life. From that point, the thoughts began to creep in of what things I could do to help better prepare myself for the future that was being pushed upon me. Seeing that I have known since a young age that I wanted to be an educator, my exploration of a summer job that would involve surrounding myself with children began. After endless hours of internet searching for the job that would best suit me, I discovered a Christian summer camp that was very much a place that would cease to leave my mind for the next few days. Days passed by and prayers were sent up when I finally came to realize that this was the job I needed. Working at a Christian summer camp would be a great job for any young person because it is a way to spread God’s word with young girls, push limits and set new goals, and it exposes the counselor to see what teachers and educators face on a day to day basis.…

Companies, nowadays, can share information, build revenue, and keep abreast of their competitors, especially if they should utilize social networking.
