Social Class Research Paper
My views on the world have changed drastically since taking the sociology class. Now when I see certain people walking down the street I wonder what social class or group these people belong to. I also find myself thinking of the backgrounds of these different people, whether or not they are from the north or the south, rich or poor, strict upbringing or lax upbringing. I find I have fewer pre-thought ideas of how certain people should act and how I was wrong for thinking this way. I also think of how technology and science have changed my views. I now see people are less personable than I sure they were in the past. People’s social skills have fallen and this could be a problem for them when they are trying to find work. I have also learned how the military has changed my thinking because of this class. My fellow soldiers and have were trained to be the same. There is not much of a chance for individuality in the military. We are told when to eat, sleep, and use the restroom this makes for a cohesive unit with cannot be broken. I learned this is key on the battle field. I have also learned that social actions play a huge role in society today. From protests to riots Americans will stand up for what they believe in and fight; sometimes to the death for it. The riots in L.A. were a great example of this. I have also thought about how population plays a role in all these things. The more people you have in one area the more these people are different from one another. This creates some prejudice and some possible racism. Once again this is caused by people not knowing enough about the other person so they make judgments that are incorrect
