India has proved to be one of the fastest-growing IT services markets in the world. Being the world’s largest sourcing destination, it accounts for 52 per cent of the US billion market with $86 billion in exports overall. The country’s ability to provide low cost jobs gives an added advantage in the global competitive market. The Indian IT is gradually moving to a more R&D oriented approach with increase in infrastructure and development programmes. The present ruling government has highlighted the role of E- governance as a force to boost the Indian IT Sector. E-governance has taken on a broader dimension, using IT for wider sectorial applications with a policy emphasis on reaching out to rural areas and taking in greater inputs from NGOs and the private sector. E- Governance would increase the accountability of the present government which would also facilitate the various billing and other tasks of the common people. The E- governance will include greater connectivity, networking, processing information and delivering good services. “SMAC” has been the latest buzz word in the IT industry due to its immense potential. Clients of the IT industry in India are heading towards an integrated approach to solutions. New business models incorporating at least 3 if not all 4 of the social, mobility, analytics and cloud technologies-these along with the traditional IT services. The Indian software industry may grow by about 13% in the fiscal year 2014 to $87 billion. Data has become big and complex and requires analysing, with accessibility over the cloud and mobility across platforms and socially viable solutions. Hence SMAC is the next big thing in IT.
