Sinkholes
Current Event: Sinkhole in Florida
We all know Florida has a long problem with sinkholes. So its not a surprise when we here that another sinkhole was formed by a resort near Disney World on Monday. For those who don’t know what a sinkhole is, it is it is a hole in the earths surface that can be formed over time or very suddenly. This sinkhole opened up on Monday night less than 5 miles from Disney 30% of the 3-story structure was already gone before sunrise.

The sinkhole itself was about 40-50 ft. in diameter. Authorities said that when they were called on the scene they recall hearing windows breaking and popping noises. Maggie Ghamry was at the resort staying a guest and was later interviewed on the good morning America show. She just assumed it was kids running down the hall.

"Next thing I know, people are yelling, 'Get out of the building, get out of the building,'" stated Maggie Ghamry. A large crack was visible at the base of the building. The villa houses were roughly 20 units and about 20 people were living in it.
Luis Perez who was also staying at the resort said his lights went off at around 11:30. As he was walking to the front desk to report it he said he saw firemen and police cars outside. "You could see the building leaning, and you could see a big crack at the base of the building," he said.
The evacuation procedure went smoothly and no one got hurt. Although we have to realize that sinkholes can cost so much damage and worth millions of dollars just for the cost of the damage they do. On March 1st a sinkhole swallowed a man and they never found his body. But such cases like these are very uncommon.
Fortunately most sinkholes are quite small. Sinkholes can either develop over a period of time or they develop all of a sudden. Either way you have to very cautious about them. You have to steer clear of them and watch where you’re going.
In the end no one got hurt and that’s all that matter right? No one was harmed and everyone got away

Throughout the text, the author describes the setting to create conflict. The author describes the Tangerine sinkhole in a realistic way, which develops the conflict when Paul has the chance to play soccer for a new school. After the submarine rested on a sandbank, about thirty fathoms down, it was time to assess the damage. The propellers were gone, the hatches were jammed, the radio was damaged, but still worked, and all but one of the crew survived. But the most serious problem was that there was only enough air to last the crew for two days. After speaking to the shore station the Lieutenant was told that rescue would not be for at least a week.…

Think about two grown men on a raft with only enough food for one to survive. If the stronger man shoves the weaker man overboard, he may have done something necessary to his own survival, though, not just. Suppose the stronger guy woke to find the weaker guy atop him, attempting to choke him. Nonetheless, could he have subdued him without throwing him over the side? If killing the other man was the only way he could resist his violent attack, then we find the survivor's actions morally justified. But, since there was only food for one, why was it not justified to throw the guy over without provocation?…
