Should young people work
It has always been a question should young people have jobs. Some people think young people should have jobs. When young people work they can acquire respect, gain money, and learn, responsibility. When young kids work they usually acquire the knowledge of respect. They will learn how to respectfully approach a customer, fellow employee, their managers, and even strangers. They will say things such as yes mam, yes sir, look the person in the eye, and not become outraged just because they do not like a certain person. You will respect that person enough to finish your business with them, not argue, and not say disrespectful comments to them at all. With respect acquired as a personal attribute, the person will then have the self control to also put thought into what their parents have to tell them. This will allow them to listen to their parents and respect whatever their parents tell and ask them to do. Without always assuming the worst. This shows just how important it really is for a young person to acquire respect. Another reason why young people should be allowed to work is to gain their own personal money. When they work they can be more self dependent without always having to ask and rely on their parents for everything they need. This will help them to save for things they need and want such as a car. This will allow the young person to go out with their parents and pick a car with a reasonable budget. This money they gain can also be used to save up for college. Some young people want to go to college but cant. This is sometimes do to not having enough money and not wanting to owe back a hefty amount of student loans. This will allow them to help pay for college with the money they earn from working. This will also allow the young person to go out and have fun with their friends using the money that they have worked hard for. It is also a way for parents to save money. This will also stop a large amount of kids from resorting to illegal ways of trying

teenagers and the less-educated citizens. Jobs of U.S. teenagers and the less-educated are being taken over by immigrants entering into the country. While teenagers and the less-educated search for a job, immigrants are getting hired at local jobs in the same state of multiple jobless citizens. Jobs also help teenagers and the less-educated get off the streets and introduces them a step of independence. Economist found that in 2012 immigration reduces the employment of U.S. citizens under the age twenty-nine. The increase of jobless teenagers and the less-educated should not be overtaken by immigration of other workers. This major decline of U.S. citizens under the age twenty-nine being employed, should be…

It's not common to see teens in the work field nowadays. Many blame the job market for this, as they claim: "They don't produce jobs for students anymore". However, in the passage "WHY MORE TEENAGERS AND COLLEGE STUDENTS NEED TO WORK WHILE IN SCHOOL" by Jeffrey J. Selingo, he attempts to convince readers why college and high school students should be working during the school year. Jeffrey uses a handful of powerful claims backed up by appealing evidence to shut down the stereotypical claim that the job market is to blame for why these students don't have correct work ethics. Students would rather pay for loans than take a job for a general and truthful claim.…

Some of the research articles we found included people from both sides. The first article included places like McDonalds where you start out at the bottom and work your way up the food chain. Although, this happening is rare, you learn valuable skills like, time management, being honest and being dependable. The second article we read opposed the idea of high school students working. This author argued that high school students can only get jobs that do not require any skills or creativity and you should spend your time focusing on the important thing, school.…

You should always maintain a professional and polite attitude with all ages of children and young people. When working with children and young people you will deal regularly with disagreements. When children have had or are having a conflict you should always go back to how it began and find out what has happened, you will need to listen to all sides and form other children present who was to blame if anyone, decide if there are any apologies needed and any further action you may need to take. Children will need to be taught how their feelings affect their behaviour and how things they do affects others. You may also be faced with conflicts with/between other adults. When these situations arise you should try to resolve the problem and always show sensitivity towards those involved. If you feel the situation requires further action you may need a mediator, you should consult your manager and explain what has happened to cause the conflict. It is impossible to work in a tense atmosphere, the children will pick up on this and it is unlikely the problem will go away without action taken. It is also important that we are confident and have the ability to identify and sort out any conflicts with children, young people and adults so that others can trust us. Another principle would be being consistent and fair towards other people as they will at some point need to rely on us; this means to stay professional at all times. We should listen to children and hear what they have to say first before jumping to conclusions and to make sure that a child’s needs are taken into consideration first. Being fair is what adults need as well as children and young people. Staff members in school will need to feel that the workplace is a fair where everyone is the same and expected of as the same level of others and to always keep confidentiality as appropriate. It’s important to show respect and courtesy towards others as adults expect this and young children will need this so that they can extend their skills with…

Within school, it is important to be able to build good relationships with the children you work with so that they feel comfortable in your company and feel that they are able to speak with you. The first step to achieving this would be to establish a mutual respect and to have clear rules in place so that the children understand what is expected of them and what they can expect from you. As a member of staff, you need to be able to adapt your own behaviour and communication skills in a manner that is age appropriate. It's important that the children feel secure, valued as an individual and as important as any other person within the school and your manner needs to demonstrate this. This will help you to get to know and understand the characters of each individual child and will help you to spot any problems or difficulties a child may be experiencing…

Amitai Etzioni wrote a short story called, “Working at McDonald’s.” As we know most parents want their kids to start working during high school in order to learn responsibility. Etzioni talks about how it is not educational for a teen to start working while in high school, because most teens will work part time at some fast food joint. He states, “But in fact, these jobs undermine school attendance and involvement, impart few skills that will be useful in later life, and simultaneously skew the values of teenagers- especially their ideas about the worth of a dollar.” He is highly against teens working, because many of them stop focusing on school and he has found results to where a lot of teens who work through high school have become high school dropouts. At the end of Etzioni’s essay he points out how teen employment is not educational as most parents think it is. His opinion is that it would better for you to put your child in a sport and let them be active that way, because a sport can also me educational.…

After reading this essay by Amitai Etzioni, I could see why he is promoting teenagers to pay more attention to their academics and education rather working at fast food restaurants like McDonalds. He provides many studies done to prove his thesis clearly. One of the few studies is a 1984 study by Ivan Charper and Bryan Shore Fraser which says that teenagers do not pay attention to what skills they develop because they only care about finishing their working hours and earning money. Another study by A. V. Harrell and P. W. Wirtz in 1980 which said “ among those students who worked at least 25 hours per week while in school, their unemployment rate four years later was half of that of seniors who did not work”( Axelrod and Cooper 281). Etzioni argued that many of the students who worked part time were end up unemployed or they were had a low skilled job. Etzioni provides appropriate support for his essay by using statistics data like “58 percent of seniors acknowledged that their jobs interferes with their school work” (Axelrod and Cooper 282). These studies do provide a strong argument but these studies do not show or tell about the circumstances that force certain teenagers to work at fast food restaurants.…

I remember that when I was a little boy in the elementary school, I got a great deal of homework explanations from my parents. They only used to explain and giving me hints and let me do my homework many times until I get it right. In addition, they give me more work for practicing. As I got older they started backing off on me and let me do all my school stuff by myself. I think they did the right thing and I would do the same thing if I have my own kids. I believe that parents and tutors should not do the kids’ work. However, they should help them and give them more work for practicing than their homework.…

Have you ever worked at a fast food joint before? Well, a majority of teenagers have, and are currently working in establishments such as Mcdonald's, Wendy’s, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and etc. Teens want to hit the ground running when it comes to working for some cold hard cash. Sadly, many adults believe that jobs like that are unhealthy for adolescents. No, not just the food they make, the work environment itself. Many adults and fellow parents believe that teens are way too maturely underdeveloped to acquire and work in the world around them. Although teenagers are stereotyped as immature and irresponsible; teenagers (with the right steps) can become efficient and knowledgeable individuals in the workforce.…
