Should The First Church Look Like Today
In the second chapter of Acts, verses 42-47, the way church should look is described in great detail. In this specific passage in Acts, Luke discusses that the first church was devoted to the teachings of the apostles, fellowship with other believers, prayer, and breaking of the bread. Within the church, there were many acts and wonders that left the people in awe. They came together as the body of Christ to serve the poor, attended the temple daily, and praised the Lord for all He had done. The first church in Acts reveals a perfect picture of what the modern church should look like today. Although times have changed and we are no longer practicing some of the same things, the church as a whole should still posses most of the same qualities the first church did as described in Acts 2.

I was raised being at church at least three or four days out of the week. My family has always played a major role in our church and for me, church has never been an option. Participating and being a part of the Sunday service, fellowship functions, and even anything service related always took priority over everything else in my life. A typical Sunday morning service at Calvary Bible Church starts with a more traditional style of worship. There will usually be a mixture of hymns and modern songs being sung with a piano, guitar, vocalists, and a small drum set included. Worship at Calvary can at times seem very conservative compared to other services. After worship there is a formal scripture reading and announcements. Kids are then dismissed for a children’s church and the pastor preaches his message. The messages are usually based off of a specific scripture in the Bible and very focused on what the text means and is saying. The service is concluded with another song and then a benediction from the
