Should Self Driving Cars Be Aloud On Us
Do you think Self-Driving cars should be aloud on U.S. roads? In an article I read about self-driving cars it explained that these cars are just around the corner. Now that is not a shock with today’s advanced technology I believe that self-driving cars will be a lot of safer than human driving cars because it could free up while on the road to do anything else like make up, text, or even take a nap. Self-driving cars would also obey all laws, but that would not swerve if a child or animal ran out in front of them while driving. I believe that self-driving cars should be on our roads. Driverless cars have more advantages rather than disadvantages; we need them. One advantage is, that you can have more time to get ready in the car; since

Alex Davies, the author of the article “Congress Could Make Self-Driving Cars Happen-or Ruin Everything” has written to show how much congress really is included in the creation of these new automated cars. The new technology in development “permeates so many parts of society: public safety, privacy, the environment, liability and insurance law, employment, urban planning, and more.” The technology being engineered is so new that no one agrees on how the finished product will work or how to know when a car is equipped to fully run on its own. The article talks on how urgent it is to companies engineering the cars to have some sort of government guidelines approved quickly. This is so important because the engineers designing the cars are unable…

The transition itself to self driving cars could be costly and dangerous. Self driving cars would be very expensive, so not every person could afford to own one. The danger of the switch is that self driving cars have to take into account the cars that are still operated by people: “‘autonomous drive vehicles are a wonderful idea, but the transition from driver-operated to driverless is likely to be filled with accidents.’ For instance, while approaching a traffic light, a self-driving car calculates that if it speeds up a little bit, it will be able to pass through the light, but the driver in the car in front decides to stop because he thinks he won’t make it on time. What do you think the result will be?” (Ramirez). The most controversial part of self driving cars however, is how the computer inside the car will decide whose life is more important in the case of an inevitable accident. “the cars will be designed to avoid accidents, but ‘If it happens where there is a situation where a car couldn’t escape, it’ll go for the smaller thing.’ But what if the smaller thing is a child?” (Spangler). It is very difficult to determine whose life is more important, and even more difficult to program a car to…
