Should School Dress Codes Be Banned?
“Excuse me? You are going to have to visit the office to get some new clothes. You are not allowed to wear that to school.” Aren’t you tired of hearing this over and over again? According to the National Center of Educational Statistics, as of the 2007 to the 2008 school year, 54% of the United States public schools enforce a strict dress code. Also, from the Niche Blog, as of 2000 to 2013, dress code increased by 21%. School dress codes should be banned because “school appropriate” clothes are harder to find today, and not everyone owns “school appropriate” clothes. Some people believe that dress codes still allow students to wear what they want, and provide them with a sense of choice and expression. This statement is incorrect because forcing students to wear shorts, almost to the length of capris , and shirts that pass your backside doesn’t allow students to show their own personalities . Some girls like to wear shorts that aren’t the longest and crop-tops. Also, dress codes do not allow students to wear what they want, because if it did, there wouldn’t be a dress code.

If you look at that clothes that most stores have in 2016, compared to about ten years ago, there is a visible difference. You can no longer find shorts that go only three inches above the knee. It's nearly impossible. Yes, Walmart and Kohl's might have shorts on the longer side, but more name brand stores have shorts and shirts that aren’t as long as most schools would like them to be. Sure, name brand stores that attract the younger audience , such as Justice, might sell longer shorts, but people of a more middle school age audience prefer stores such as American Eagle and Abercrombie and Fitch don’t sell longer shorts and shirts. They keep in the trends because that is what their audience wants. They sell clothing such as crop-tops and shorter
