Should Dress Codes Be Outlawed In Schools?
Many of girls outfits and clothes are sexualized by dress codes. Boys are never told that their shoulders,legs,or stomachs are distracting or inappropriate. Clothing items such as leggings are outlawed by schools because they are seen as distracting to boys. Ripped Jeans are another violation of the dress code. Rips showing a small amount of skin on your knee vs. showing your whole knee and lower leg (how scandalous) in the shorts you change into. ”It is the responsibility of the administration to see that student dress is not extreme to the point of creating a disruption in the educational atmosphere”. (Planner) Administration uses their own personal opinions to decide what is appropriate and immodest. Shorts,which are not a violation of the dress code, show the majority of your leg. The planner state's,”Shorts and skirts must be mid-thigh length.If a garment contains a split or slit, the split or slit cannot be higher than the mid thigh.” Students can wear shorts and skirts that expose their leg as long they do not go above the mid thigh. Rips in the jeans only show a portion of the skin, and yet violate the dress code. If students can wear a skirt with a slit up to their mid thigh, they should be able to wear jeans with rips up to the mid -thigh. Not all violations all the dress code are bad. Dress codes banning articles of clothing the refer to drugs,weapons,alcoholic drinks,sex, and others that support profanity violence or illegal substances should be banned for the school environment.
