Should College Student Carry Law Essay
Should Texas Reevaluate the Campus Carry Law? If allowing students to bring handguns to their campus, will that promise to maintain and facilitate the safe environment that a college campus already has? If campuses were to experiment this, then they would see that it could result in a negative effect. Due to the increase of campus shootings and violence on campus, the state has signed the campus carry bill and will take effect on August 1, 2016. Texas should definitely reevaluate this law because it could cause the violence rate to increase, unnecessary attention to rise and if by allowing guns on college campuses that would lead to more suicidal deaths by college students. “Despite being lower, the statistics clearly show that thousands of crimes take place on college campuses daily” (Crime). Research shows that students who commit suicide usually have mental health problems, a student can easily breakdown because they are stressing over school or anything in general and just commit suicide easily because they have easy access to a firearm. Texas should definitely reevaluate the Campus-Carry law and think of the precautions for the students and professors. Allowing guns on college campuses will not maintain the safe environment nor make it safer.
