Paying College Athletes College athletes spend countless of hours practicing and studying the game they love in order to perform. The amount of money these athletes bring into their schools is ridiculous.The coach's salary for an average D1 school is about 1.64 million dollars a year, Some athletes have received help from others,these athletes have been kicked out of the sport they love and were forced drop out of school due to the loss of their scholarship.It's not fair for these athletes to bring in so much revenue for the school and get nothing in return (Tribune, Chicago. "Enough Madness: Just Pay College Athletes"). Athletes of great talent sometimes come from a family of poverty. Without the scholarship the school has provided for them these athletes would not attend any college. The athletes receive books and tuition free of charge, but housing and food are up to the family of the athlete to pay for. The players that come from a poor family can not afford that, this results in athletes going to bed hungry. The average D1 college football team brings in around 60 million dollars a year.     In my opinion, I think that Division 1-A basketball and football players should be getting paid a certain amount on the side for all the good they bring into a school. The proposal that I would like to propose is to pay the students on a per minute basis due to the fact that there are some superstars on a team that play most of the game and other players who do not play at all. I feel as if the better players on a team deserve more than a player who doesn’t play at all. Furthermore, I would pay the players on a $20-$25 dollar per-minute basis. For example, if a star basketball athlete played 30 minutes in a game, he would bring in about 600-750 dollars per game. For the players who receive minimal (6 mins and under) playing time during a game to no playing time at all will receive a minimum of $120. The same would go for the football players at a Division-1A school, as they will be paid on a per-minute basis as well. I have many reasons as to why I feel this proposal is correct route to take and will clearly explain my reasoning in the upcoming paragraphs…

From famous sportscasters to the common man, everyone has their own opinion whether the student-athletes should receive a “stipend” or certain wage per month to cover food, gas, and other various essentials. A great example of this is from Ramogi Huma, a former linebacker for UCLA. “Even though the school was providing him with three meals a day, he said, he needed to eat five or six times a day because of the calories he was burning playing football.
