Being an athlete in college means you contribute about 40 hours to your sport. They have a full time college schedule with studying, mandatory classes, and let’s not forget practice. According to an article, “If the average NCAA college football player in division one spends over 40 hours a week on their game, then they are working the same amount as those in full time employment do”(Listland 1). Since 40 hours are dedicated to the game, that takes up a lot of time in schedules. The athletes also have to take mandatory classes and have time to study. Majority of the sports world knows about College basketball’s biggest event, which is March Madness. They could probably tell you how many points, rebounds, and assist their favorite player has each game. However, what they don’t know is that most of these college athletes go hungry every night throughout the season. Over the past decades, what has continued to be one of the most debatable issues in the world of sports is whether or not college football players should get paid. My honest opinion is football that players should receive a certain proportion of money because of the service that college athletes provide to the institution they attend. In addition, they should be rewarded in a reasonable manner after putting their bodies out on the line, bringing in a tremendous amount of money, it will help with the football athletes to begin creating a sense of financial awareness, and finally it will attract more talented athletes.…

In taking on this commitment, student athletes must dedicate their time to pursue excellence in their sport. Because of this great time commitment, they do not have any time to take on a job or other ways of making money. Student athletes are not given any money, and do not have the time to earn much needed cash on their own. The NCAA should seriously consider compensating their athletes, at least providing them with enough money to cover their basic learning expenses. Many of the athletes are attending college on a full ride scholarship, meaning that the college pays for tuition, on campus living expenses, and books.…

Some people believe they should not be paid because the already receive scholarships to a university which everything is suppose to be payed for. Top colleges athletes already get plenty of benefits, such as scholarships and free tutoring. (Scholastic News 2). However, this is not necessarily always true. Although some universities offer athletic scholarships, they do not pay for all expenses (Time for Kids 3). They are not necessarily getting paid, yes they are getting tuition money for school, rooms, and books, but they are not receiving money to help them if they have an injury, buy clothes, or food. Other people believe college is a place for learning, not earning. If college athletes get paid, they may not be motivated to focus on their schoolwork (Time for Kids 3). Again, this is not necessarily true. Yes, college is a place for learning. But college athletes are focusing and learning for their career they chosen, sports. If they are paid, they will be highly motivated because if they fail their schoolwork, they cannot compete in their sport. Many of the reasons to not pay college athletes are…
