Should Children Be Allowed To Get A Trophy
Anyone who sees the excitement in a child’s face when they receive a trophy will experience a heartwarming sensation. Children love competition, and to some, it may seem as though a trophy represents a huge accomplishment. Some believe that giving a trophy to whoever partakes in an event is important in building a child’s confidence. Parents would do anything to see their child excel at everything they do. Those who have experience in competition would disagree with this idea however; as they believe that, a trophy is earned, not given. Children should not receive a trophy for every event they partake in; there are many reasons supporting this claim. Firstly, not all children deserve to get a participation trophy. By giving trophies to everyone, regardless of their skill, their desire to compete and achieve will diminish. A trophy signifies that contributors worked hard and put in the time to achieve a goal. To give trophies to every child would weaken this significance. Children should not assume they will receive participation trophies every time they play a sport or every time they are in a school event, for “participation trophies ruin lives. Sportsmanship to people is more than just helping another teammate; it becomes a part of them. It can be used as an exit to let out other emotions. See, an athlete’s passion for their sport overpowers any other emotion that they feel in the outside world. That is why the lost for a sport is so strong and powerful. It can escape form out stressful reality; it mentally blocks out all of our problems and leave us something else to focus on. It leaves people with a sense of purpose and path for those others things in life just cannot do. Sportsmanship can make people realize that it is not always about
