Even though environmental psychology has not been recognized as a field of psychology until a couple of years ago, in my opinion it has always been there. The reason why I say that is because I believe environmental psychology deals with the way people understand and respond to the physical environment. Through environmental psychology books, and lectures we learn and understand in more depth what effect has the environment on human behavior, and vice versa, how human behavior can affect the environment. There are many topics at the intersection of psychology and the physical environment.
A few years ago sustainability has become a big interest and a great concern to society in general. When population became more aware of sustainability and the importance of recycling this field increased its focus on how environment affects human five style and quality of life, and how human affect the environment they live in. “environmental psychology explores the environmental context of human behavior and wellbeing (De Young, 2013 p. 23)
I personally believe it is very important to recycle and go green. There are many ways to positively help and improve the environment and recycling is one of the easiest. We do not only help the environment when we recycle but we also help ourselves. Waste affects the natural environment very negatively, and the waste is growing because of the growing population, and the variety of products that are available to buy nowadays like fast food and special packaging that is not biodegradable.
Recycling helps reduce the pollution that is causes by waste, the deforestation causes habitat destruction and global warming and recycling reduces the need for raw materials so the rainforests can be preserved, and also recycling saves energy and preserves natural resources.

Recycling has been a well known idea for so many years, but now we need it more than ever. Now in the world there are so many problems with the environment like Global Warming, toxic waste, and not to mention not recycling is very costly but recycling reduces the landfill space, helps conserves natural resources, and reduces the production of greenhouse gases . When you recycle you also help save animals so the rims of a six pack of soda doesn’t end up blocking a fish's gills or a plastic bag getting eaten by a turtle and having it choke on the bag. Recycling can also be a group effort where you get a group of people from your community, school, church, job, or just you and your friends so not only your saving the environment but your having fun with people you know while doing it.…

To define environmental psychology I would first define the words environment and psychology separately. The environment is best described as the world around you, your home, your city, your country, and even your perception of earth. Psychology is the study of human mental processes and human emotions. Scientists study the human brain and aspects of communication to interpret the way people feel and think both within themselves and as they interact with one another. I would define environmental psychology as the analysis of individuals and how their environment, or the world surrounding them, affects their emotions and mental processes and how they in turn affect the environment.…
