Shoes
Soles to Souls

A person can often be defined by the type and value of the shoes they wear, but the same could be said for the opposite. People define shoes. Certain qualities and attributes of shoes are similar to those of the people one surrounds himself with. In every walk of life one will come across these shoes (and people) through experiences and adventures. However, similar to people, not every pair of shoes are suitable for every occasion. From difficult people to fitting shoes, some may harm while others benefit. Different people prefer different things, but there are certain easily identifiable people everyone encounters.

The Worn-Out Shoes
Everybody has a pair of worn-out shoes, shoes that you have had since you were a kid or shoes that you just cannot bear to throw away. These are the shoes that have walked through many experiences with you, celebrated the happy ones and endured the sad ones. You never have to worry about damaging or hurting these shoes because they have already seen it all. They are the shoes that you will always remember and cherish and that you can always count on. As time passes on, the bond only grows stronger, making the shoes impossible to throw away.

The Comfortable Slippers
Slippers can be anyone’s best friend. They are comfortable, cozy, and relaxing. They are the shoes that you wear at home where you are the most familiar and the ones that give a sense of warmth and comfort. They are the perfect shoes to curl up in front of the television or fireplace with your family and close friends. They have seen you in your weakest and most vulnerable state and know everything about you. But there is nothing to worry about, because they are not only trustworthy, but are also always there to rely on. However, you may wish to keep these shoes to yourself, as they can sometimes be quite embarrassing and unseemly.

They had incredible support and impeccable cushioning. I wore them when my family and I would go out to get nourishments, to go out to freelance, and in school. When they would become a little scuffed or unsanitary, I would take a rag and scour them off thoroughly to make them appear to be fresh out of the box. But one day, I made a bad decision. I wore them to the baseball fields on a somber day. Towards the back of the park is the fields that the older kids played games on. I saw my friends being sedentary in one of the pavilions. I rode over to them on my bike and sat down next to one of them on the old, brown bench. We were listening to music and talking about arbitrary things until one of them said that we should go in the pond. It was about 7:30 P.M. and it was getting dark out. The sun was setting on the horizon as he stepped into the brown, murky water that the ducks swam in. There is also turtles in that pond, but we did not know that back then. He hollered back at us, “Y'all got to do it too now!” Without hesitation, my friend and I hopped off the bench and walked into the water. It was frigid to start out, but after about two minutes it became warmer. With goosebumps down my arms, I had fun throwing a football back and forth in the water with them. I had to go because it was getting late and as soon as I stepped out it hit me. I had left my shoes on. I looked down and I saw my shoes go from…

    Spike Heels

The play spike heels was written by Theresa Rebeck and directed by Deborah Mello. I viewed the play spike heels at the Miami Dade Community College Kendall campus auditorium. The play consisted of four characters; there were two males Andrew and Edward and two females Lydia and Georgie. The role of Andrew was performed by Arnaldo Carmouze and the role of Edward was played by Sheaun Mckinney. The part of Georgie was beautifully played by Natalie Morales and Lydia witch was performed by Karina Hernandez. This play took place in a Boston apartment during present time. The play opened up in a much undefined manner doing a poor job in explaining the characters that were being spoken about. For instance when the play began the characters of Lydia and Andrew were being spoken about but the audience had no idea who they were, even though the character of Lydia was a bit better explained than Andrew they still left some gaps. Another issue that was exaggerated in an un realistic way were the curse words, I can understand that the character Georgie was supposed to be bad mouthed but not even the worst mouthed person wouldn't have repeated the "F" word so many times.…

In 1984, Peter Moore, an employee at Nike was the guy responsible for designing the first pair of Air Jordan’s; a sneaker that would end up changing the entire shoe industry. With a plan for success in mind, Moore made a deal with a Chicago Bulls rookie, Michael Jordan to endorse a new type of sneaker during each game. “The Air Jordan I had a price tag of $65, which made it the most expensive basketball shoe on the market. These shoes featured the iconic Nike Swoosh on the mid panel and a newly designed winged logo on the upper ankle. The Air Jordan I featured a Nike Air unit for heel cushioning, padded foam ankle collars for additional protection and a toe overlay for added lockdown” (“History of Air Jordan”, 2000). With a red, black, and white color scheme to match Jordan’s uniform, the high-top basketball sneaker stood out on the court.…

We do not show off our shoes to say that we are better, but we show off the shoe because we believe the kicks on our feet are clean. When people turn and look at our shoes, we call that breaking necks. This means that people notice how clean our shoe is or how they pop out. Every sneaker head loves shoes and want others to see them wear it. It can differ for all sneaker heads, but most of them enjoy “breaking necks.”…
