Sheridan Counseling Services Case Study
Summary of the Case:
On March 26, 2015 Jasmine Smith began her counseling sessions at Sheridan Counseling Services. During this first session we completed both a face sheet and intake form in order to get a better understanding of why she began going to a counselor. Through this initial intake Mrs. Smith explained that she recently had a child, and had just been given the news that her daughter was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. This news came as a surprise to Jasmine Smith and her husband because they had meticulously planned their first child. Mrs. Smith and her husband also own their own home and also have a healthy income to care for their child. After obtained a release of information from Mrs. Smith to talk to her doctor, Harry Land it was apparent that these headaches have been an issue for over six months. Dr. Land prescribed a mild Fenoprofen to help prevent some of these tension migraines. The Fenoprofen Dr. Land prescribed is also used to help with balancing the hormones related to brain such as serotonin and dopamine. After two weeks on Fenoprofen, Jasmine Smith and I discussed how she was feeling. She mentioned that she was able to concentrate much better and had an all-around better mood now that these headaches were under …show more content…
She appeared younger than her stated age. Her dress was appropriate for the setting and yet very neat. She wore a business casual skirt to many of the counseling session along with a white blouse, and black slip on shoes. Her grooming was quite adequate and she was very cooperative in the counseling process making sure to answering all questions politely. Her mood was both shy, as well as anxious when I began asking deeper questions.
Jasmine’s manner was quite appropriate to the content of the sessions; she was reasonably distressed and anxious considered her situation but was not overly emotional. Her rate of speech was somewhat rapid when addressing stressful subjects, but otherwise normal and quite formal. Her tone was about average throughout the counseling session but was given inflection when stressful problems were being addressed.
