Preface
This report is a part of CVE 335 Cement and Concrete Materials Laboratory for civil engineering junior students. This project is about the normal consistency and the setting time of cement paste. The data on this individual report is based on our experiment which my group and I have done last Thursday.
On this project, our group had to find the water requirement for normal consistency of cement paste and determine the initial and the final of setting time. After we had done with the experiment, we need to use the recorded data to analysis and discuss the result then hand in an individual report. I also have to thanks Dr. Boonmee for advice and assistance to finish the experiment and report.
I hope that this report will be useful to anyone who is interested. If there is any mistake in this report, I would like to apologize and accept all the wrongness and I will do my best on the further project.

Table 3 shows the flow value of the mixtures containing BA. It shows that flow value for the BA blended cement mortars were decreased with increase in the percentage of BA. The control mix (BAM 0) has a flow value of 147 mm [30]. The flow value of mixes BAM 5, BAM 10, BAM 15, BAM 20, BAM 25, and BAM 30 shows decrease of 146, 146, 145, 144, 143, and 142 mm respectively. BA requires more water for proper consistency when compared to that of ordinary Portland cement due to irregular shape with rough surfaces, high porous texture and absorptive in nature [5]. Increase in water demand of BA, decreases the flow value and resulted in poor workability. W/C ratio was kept same as 0.5 for all mixes. The flow value of BAM 30 reduced to 3.4 % due to…

The generated calcium carbonate accumulates in the pores of hardened cement paste, forming dense protective layer to prevent the infiltration of water outside and the solution of calcium hydroxide, thus preventing the erosion. In many projects, the cement structures which will contact with soft water should get hardened in the air at first to form a layer of calcium carbonate, which may protect the structures from dissolution corrosion.…

The model consists of an outer cylinder representing the casing. Inside the casing is a pipe of smaller diameter which represents the drill string. To the lower end of this pipe (drill string) is attached a non return valve (a simple rubber diaphragm in this case). Now the cement slurry is pumped through the drill string followed by buffer solution. The hydrostatic head provided by drilling fluid after buffer solution in real time is transformed by a manually weighted piston which pushes the cement into the drill string and then enforces it to move through the annulus. The non return valve helps for only one way movement of pumped cement slurry. Replica of various equipments actually used in the industry is used:…
