Servant Leadership Style Analysis
I have been in several leadership positions over my career and in my opinion the servant type of leadership style is more desirable. With the servant leadership style the leader recognizes the value, the strengths and talents that each employee possesses and looks to use these values, strength and talents toward the advancement of the organization (Borkowski, 2009). The servant style of leadership is one in which the leader takes the time to coach employees in order to give them the resources to accomplish the goals that have been set for the organization (Borkowski, 2009). Finally the leader that chooses to use the servant style of leadership will help set goals and maintain a learning atmosphere by using employee evaluations to help identify …show more content…
I have a nurturing nature and have always seemed to gravitate toward those individuals that are not as confident in their skills as a clinician. As a leader I have been in a position to teach students and train new staff at a couple of the medical centers that I have worked in over the past few years. The feedback I got from my students and staff is that I made them feel at ease and they felt as if they could ask questions without being judged as having a lack of knowledge. After taking the DiSC Classic 2.0 self-assessment I found that the results were very close to my work ethic, and the results showed that I have a high conscientiousness dimension which means that my work shows high level of quality and accuracy (DiSC Classic 2.0., 2013). I found that the assessment interpreted my personality very well, the “D” dimension detailed I am goal-oriented and that is true in my professional life as well as my personal life (DiSC Classic 2.0., …show more content…
The “I” dimension states that I am a realist, like to work as an individual at times, and that I am self-conscious which I found to be a very accurate representation of my personality (DiSC Classic 2.0., 2013). The “s” dimension also was accurate in detailing the one issue I feel that I need to improve upon which is that I can be critical and almost too honest and this is true in my professional and personal life (DiSC Classic 2.0., 2013). Finally the “C” dimension also accurately represents two potential issues that I sometimes find myself struggling with which is the pursuit of perfection and always seeking facts (DiSC Classic 2.0., 2013). The assessment results in the “C” dimension can be seen as assets to an organization but personally they can become an issue when the person is always looking for perfection and questioning the facts of any

In the first assessment tool “What Is My Basic Personality?” the focus was on the five-factor model of personalities which are-extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability, and openness to experience. Based off this evaluation, my basic personality indicates that I am moderately extroverted because I scored a ten. My conscientiousness, emotional stability and openness to experience scores were high with a score of fifteen. My personality does indicate that I am someone who is agreeable because I scored thirteen. According to the analysis and interpretation, a high agreeableness and conscientiousness score indicates someone who “is good-natured, cooperative, and trusting” (Robbins, 2007 pg.9). A high conscientiousness score represents “someone who is responsible, dependable, persistent, and achievement oriented” (Robbins, 2007 pg.9). Also, a high emotional stability score indicates “someone who is calm, enthusiastic, and secures (Robbins 2007 pg.9). Finally, a high openness to experience score signifies someone who is “imaginative, artistically sensitive, and intellectual” (Robbins, 2007 pg 9). My score indicates that I have a positive emotional stability level, conscientious and openness to experience. However, extraversion and agreeableness were moderate scores which imply that I can improve in these areas.…

For my evaluations I had my brother, my boyfriend, my friend and my neighbor evaluate me. Based on their evaluations I scored highest in the Conscientiousness Dimension. I guess that is a good thing. According to The Owners Manual for the Brain I am somewhere between Balanced and Focused. This means that they view me as being organized, responsible, punctual, and dedicated to hard work. I also learned that people who score higher in the Conscientiousness Dimension have a certain way of doing things and tend to see only their way as ‘right' and tend to be perfectionists.…

Thank you, Jennifer, for your feedback. I do see myself as a leader in both my personal and work environments. Though I do identify myself with the qualities of a traditional leader, I feel more aligned with the qualities of a servant leader. Servant leadership consists of the following principles: listening, empathy, healing, awareness, persuasion, conceptualization, foresight, stewardship, commitment to the growth of others, and the ability to build a community (Spears, 2010). I am the charge nurse, who applies almost all these principles in my daily life. Being a leader of the unit I work at, I demonstrate the qualities of listening, empathy, healing, awareness, and persuasion. This makes me align with a servant leader. When I resolve the…
