Stickleback are most commonly found in the ocean, but can be found in some freshwater lakes. Sticklebacks are noticeable by the presence of isolated spines in the dorsal fin and a number of lateral bony plates known as scutes. Their maximum length is about four inches, but few of them are more than three inches long. They mature sexually at a length of about two inches. All species show a similar mating behavior, which is also unusual among fish. The males construct a nest from vegetation held together by secretions…

Overall, Smilodon was more robustly built than any extant cat, with particularly well-developed forelimbs and exceptionally long upper canines. Its jaw had a bigger gape than that of modern cats and its upper canines were slender and fragile, being adapted for precision killing. S. gracilis was the smallest species at 55 to 100 kg (120 to 220 lb) in weight. S. fatalis had a weight of 160 to 280 kg (350 to 620 lb) and height of 100 cm (39 in). Both of these species are mainly known from North America, but remains from South America have also been attributed to them. S. populator from South America is perhaps the largest known felid at 220 to 400 kg (490 to 880 lb) in weight and 120 cm (47 in) in height. The coat pattern of Smilodon is unknown, but it has been artistically restored with plain or spotted patterns.…

Due to scarce fossil records, the official origin of this species is currently unknown. However the first appearance of viverridae in Europe occurs in the early Oligocene & the Miocene Periods in Africa. Studies also suggest that their skeletal morphology & tooth structure have remained the same for an estimated 40-50 million years. Civets, Genets, and Linsangs have long, sinewy bodies, elongated heads with pointed snouts and especially strong claws. Most have shorter fur with a more slender appearance and a tail that can exceed body length. Although the civet species is very diverse, their adaptations are based upon the niche they occupy. The African civet has digitigrade feet, non/semi-retractable claws,…

Adults grow to about four feet in length and can weigh between 54 and 44 pounds (http://www.otterproject.org/about-sea-otters/biology-of-the-southern-sea-otter/). Sea otters typically live 10 to 12 years. These creatures live mostly on their own. One of the most unique features on the sea otter is its dense fur coat. Most marine mammals have a layer of blubber for warmth, instead the sea otter has one of the densest fur coats in the animal kingdom; they have approximately one million hairs per square inch (http://www.otterproject.org/about-sea-otters/biology-of-the-southern-sea-otter/). The coat has two layers: the first layer is a dense, dry layer and the second is a water-resistant, oily coat to protect the first layer. Grooming their fur regularly is vital to the sea otter’s survival. This dense coat was the reason sea otters were hunted so severely and are currently…

The movie Serpico is about police corruption Frank Serpico, or known as “Paco” which is a police officer who testifies against police corruption, also who got shot in the face for during a drug arrest. Which after that being taken place, none of the officers made one action. Serpico was abandoned by society because after testifying with many people about the corruption really made no difference. Serpico was a good cop for example an officer beaten a young, after that Serpico had took the young male across the street for a cup of coffee treating him well talking with him to get the information that’s needed for the crime the young boy committed, instead of the violent act. All Frank Serpico was about was serving well to protect others with no question. Officers did not work together in a positive and ethical way to do things the right way; they also were accepting bribes from criminals. Overall the police in this film were using their own source of power to commit crimes. While Frank Serpico did his best to stop the police corruption to serve well to his community.…

Bivalves are distributed along from 2.5m to 47.5m away from the coastline. The graph shows a large range of distribution. As sea water also brings food for bivalves, wherever the sea water can reach, bivalves can live there. Therefore, bivalves have a wide distribution along the transect line. For the abundance, it is quite even along the transect line, except the region 47.5m away from the coastline in transect line 1, there was a large group of bivalves found. This may due to the random distribution of the bivalves in the past. Because bivalves adopt a sedentary or even sessile lifestyle, they often spend their whole lives in the area where they first settled as juveniles. This may be a suitable explanation for this phenomenon. The abundance of bivalves should be similar along the transect line, because the environmental factors are similar underground. Therefore, the survival chance of bivalves should also resemble in different regions.…

    Morphology of Dragonflies

The means provided from the different species showed that there was a small difference from 2001 to 2008 and that the 2008 data was smaller with the normal amount of rainfall opposed to the 2001 draught. The Mean for 2001 of the Forewing length (23.30mm), Hindwing area (169.88mm2), thorax depth (6.04mm), abdomen length (21.08mm), were larger than 2008. The 2008 means are as follows, Forewing Length (22.06mm), Hindwing Area (148.61mm2), Thorax Depth (5.25mm) and Abdomen Length (20.70mm). In the study “Fitness and body size in mature odonates” it was found that body size has an important role in the fitness of dragonflies and is directly related to their ability to reproduce and survive (Sokolovska, Rowe, and Johansson 2000). Through this study it was found that there was no statistical difference in the abdomen depth from 2001 and 2008 with varying water levels. This suggests that the dragonflies did not change their abdomen size because that particular size was the one that best aided their fitness, not relying on water levels.…
