"Self Perception" Essay
I used to see myself as just another person in the world, never did it occur to me "who I am". To understand "who I am", I first need to know what my attitude and personality are. I view myself as a person with a positive attitude as well as a hardworking and understanding personality. To find one word to describe a person's attitude isn't easy, but if I had to decide I would say I have a positive attitude. When I run cross country I try to be as positive as possible so I can push myself and my team. During races when I start to feel tired I tell myself "You're almost done, keep going" and "There's only a mile left don't give up now". There are also times in practice when I want to slow down or take it easy, but then I think "If I work hard now I'll do even better during the race". Before races I try to encourage my teammates by telling them "I believe in you!" and "You'll do great!". There are also times in school where I try to be positive. In the course of a school day I face a lot of challenges such as hard tests, large sums of homework, or just exhaustion. When school gets hard I remember that I can do it. The reason I try to have such a good attitude is because I know that I can do anything if I put my mind to it. Throughout middle school I worked very hard to get all A's and B's. During my eighth grade year I ran cross country, played basketball, ran track, and played softball. Besides playing sports I also took Spanish 1 and Algebra 1 which both counted as high school classes. I had no time to waste between doing homework and playing sports. Every single day I pushed myself academically and physically to do my best. On nights that I had basketball games it was very frustrating trying to get my homework done because I always got home around seven or eight o'clock at night. By the time I did my homework, took a shower, and went to bed it was nearly midnight! With a lot of hard work I made it through the school year and had great sport seasons. Growing up with an older sister who tells me all her problems I've become very understanding. When my sister comes to me for advice I have to put the consequences of her decisions into consideration. There was a time when my sister lied to my Dad and told him she had finished her homework so that she could go to her friends house. When she came home she didn't have time to finish her assignment so she asked me if she should ask her friend for answers on the paper or just do what she could on the assignment. Before I could give her my input I had to think about what would happen if she got caught cheating or what my dad would say if she got a bad grade on the paper. In the end I told her that it would be better if she turned the assignment in incomplete instead of cheating and possibly getting caught. Even though my sister has hard times I understand her problems and help her get through them. I am positive, hardworking, understanding, and very proud of who I am. So far I have been successful and very happy with my life. If I continue to be positive and hardworking I hope to go far in life, and with my understanding personality I hope to help others as well.

In the famous movie Remember the Titans, the captain of the T.C. Williams football team stated, "attitude reflects altitude". When your attitude is positive you can fly higher than the sky, but if your attitude is negative then you can fall deep into the ocean. It has been said that a positive attitude is the key to success in life, and I just so happen to agree. Positivity can make you more motivated. When you are positive, others respect you and want to help you succeed.…

There are a few different factors that come together and affect a person’s concept of themselves. A person’s own thoughts and interpretations are an important part of what makes that up. Different influences like the culture that we are part of can also shape how we are and how we see ourselves, as well as influences brought on my our close family members and friends. Naturally we also look to those around us to see how we compare in contrast to how they are, and develop out self-concept from that.…

We’ve all been self-conscious about something we can’t change about ourselves at least once in our lives. It’s an instinct to want other people to see you as the best you can be, or more- regardless of whether it’s the real you or not. In the story Senior Picture Day by Michael Serros, a girl feels her appearance categorizes her in the eyes of the public. In her case she looks Indian, and she considers this a negative physical trait to have inherited. It never bothered her until her selfish friend, Terri, used her Indian appearance against her in order to make someone dislike her. If this would’ve happened to me in the fifth grade, I would be pinching my nose until senior year too.…

Many students claim that middle school is exceedingly straightforward and easy, whereas others claim that middle school is complex and difficult. For those who succeed in school and claim school is easy say that because they work diligently. It’s not because they are naturally talented. The students who say middle school is difficult and flounder in their studies say school is difficult because they don’t work assiduously and they don’t have perseverance. In fact, there are several kids at school who are talented fail their classes. This is because they don’t have grit and they are also often too lazy to do their work. In my own case, I am considered as one of the naturally talented people. Many of my peers think that I receive good grades because I am talented. However, I know this is not the case. In reality, I have been recieving good grades because I have been working diligently. Most homework assignments in middle school require hard work, critical thinking, and perseverance(which means no procrastinating). There are also many conundrums and…

The other four perspectives are behavioral perspective, social structural perspective, cognitive perspective, and evolutionary perspective. First, the behavioral perspective assumes that human behavior can be explained through observable, verifiable behaviors, rather than people's thoughts. It argues that if a behavior is followed by something favorable or by removal of something unpleasant, the behavior is more likely to occur. Stimulus induces response, and reinforcement makes it more likely for that response to occur. Two subset theories under this perspective are social leaning theory, which assumes that leaners acquire new responses through observing a model, and social exchange theory, which assumes that people view social relationships…

Ever since the dawn of time, perception has played a major role in the human race. Whether it is in job interviews or casual conversation, we as humans tend to determine how good or bad a person might be based on how they act or what color they are or even what car they drive. Perception plays a big part in relationships as well. We see this in two stories called “Hills Like White Elephants,” and “Love of My Life.” Both stories focus on how perception could very much affect a relationship.…

Throughout life, we all have pitfalls that we believe hold us back from dreams, but I believe that we have the opportunity to persevere and move forward in the future. On a daily basis, we make decisions using the conscious mind and try to apply the adult development theories when making those decisions but, we may not always apply them correctly. Although my story may be one of a series of pitfalls and setbacks, I will prove to others that perseverance has pulled me through those pitfalls and setbacks and has gotten me to where I am today. I do not see my pitfalls as mistakes, but rather as life lessons that have contributed to bettering my life and shaping who I am today. Life does not create a person; a person creates their own life. While we all have different journeys that lead us to where we are today, my life has been one that I look upon as a true persevering story.…

During my college level education, I have been very intrigued by the field of science. Specifically, the subject which interests me the most is microscopic molecules and organisms. The class that I believe sparked my interest was my second semester of general biology at Paradise Valley Community College. During this class, I was introduced to the intricate details of cells and the idea that microscopic organisms outnumber all other living things on Earth. This class also provided me with information about viruses, which quickly became most interesting topic for me.…
