Self-Learning & Empowerment Through Leadership
SELF-LEARNING & EMPOWERMENT THROUGH LEADERSHIP William Shakespeare says in his famous play Twelfth Night, “Some people are born great, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them”. If we slightly modify this statement, it also goes true with leadership. So we can say that, “some people are born leaders, some become leaders through their achievements and some have leadership thrust upon them”. Some people in this world are born leaders. It is engrained in their blood. They cannot but choose to be a leader. They have all the fine proportions and qualities that befit a leader. History is replete with many great leaders who showed light to common people. For example Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata an Indian industrialist was a great leader who founded the ‘Tata Group’, India 's biggest conglomerate company. He devoted himself to bringing to fruition four of his key ideas: setting up an iron and steel company, a world-class learning institution, a one-of-a-kind hotel and a hydroelectric plant. Similarly Dhirajlal Hirachand Ambani was an Indian rags-to-riches business tycoon who founded ‘Reliance Industries’. Dhirubhai has been among the select few to be figured in the Sunday Times list of top 50 businessmen in Asia. Also Mahatma Gandhi & Subhash Chandra bose were the two great leaders of Indian-subcontinent. They did a lot of efforts for the social and economic uplift of our nation. In the various field these people worked & now being icon to all of us, but the one thing is common in these great leaders is ‘a big dream with big idea’, the idea which has power of total evolution of the nation. No one can deny the fact that today’s world also need great leaders for it’s prosperity and peace, irrespective of the fact that today people are more aware of their rights and obligations due to the spread of education and information technology. Today, our modern world is in need of great leaders as it needed them in the past. Leadership is an art, not a science. A

When we think of leaders, the first thing that usually comes to mind is an individual who holds significant power such as celebrity, high profile athlete, CEO of a fortune 500 company or a high profile political figure . Everyone has the ability to become a leader, as leaders, everyone has the power to not only influence others, but inspire and motivate them as well. The following pages consist of information about Leadership; I will have to admit I knew nothing about leadership and the many perspectives and ideas about Leadership and how to be an effective leader. I selected a Leader to study who is known as an effective leader and has made a difference in the world. Our world would not be the same if he had not made those choices to change his world that he lived in. I knew very little about the man that is known for his “radiant smile” and desired to know more about what caused him to be known throughout the world. I had only heard that he spent years in prison and became the first Democratic President in his country. Throughout these pages you will read the analysis of my chosen Leader’s style of effective leadership through six perspectives: trait, behavioral, situational, and constitutive which includes two theories of transactional and transformational leadership, and global leadership. I have also included a comparison of my leadership style with this “Great Man” in each of the six perspectives. Before comparing myself, I thought, I could never stand in the same room with this man, and now I am comparing myself to him. To my amazement, there is a significant learning experience that one can gain in comparing yourself with someone great like this man. I found out who I am, who I want to become and what improvements need to be made to become an effective leader, no matter how big or small our leadership role is, in this world, in our sphere of influence, “We are all Leaders”. I have concluded this paper with a personal leadership profile and a plan of leadership development that I will continue until I have become an effective Leader and have made a difference in my world, in my sphere of influence, in…

You must devote yourself to a lifetime of commitment and dedication in developing yourself. First and most important, we find all of our authentic leaders that were interviewed have drawn upon lessons that they have learned throughout their lives. A true authentic leader frames his or her life stories in ways that allows them to see themselves not passive observers of their lives but rather as individuals who can develop self-awareness from their experiences. Authentic leaders act on that awareness by practicing their values and principles. They are careful to balance their motivations so that they are driven by their inner values as much as by a desire for external rewards or recognition as well. (165)…

In high school, I used to teach young children at a Hindi school every Sunday. Being in that environment and seeing how much of a positive impact I have on these young kids inspired me to lead in other aspects in my life. Having the opportunity to shape and mold these children into great role models, really gave me an insight on how important it is to have a role model/leader to look up to. That experience really sparked my interest in becoming a leader. I think being able to directly impact someone’s life for their betterment is empowering. Overall, I think all leaders are committed to make their group, organization, company,…
