Walkin’ Lawton
We have all heard of Governor’s, right? Well, one thing you probably don’t know is that we (Florida) have had forty-four different governors. Well, if we were to cover all of them, than we would be here all day long, but we’ll just talk about former Governor, Lawton Mainor Chiles Jr. He was the 41st governor of Florida. He did a lot of work, like being in the Korean War from 1953- 1954. He is also known as “Walkin’ Lawton” when he walked 1,003 miles from Key West to Pensacola in just three months. It was a part of his U.S. Senate Campaign in 1970. As he walked, he wrote filled eight different notebooks with “information on our states problems and the feelings of the people”. That shows how much he cares about Florida and our problems and will even spend three months trying to fix each and every one of them. That shows a great leader.
Another thing you probably don’t know about him is that he has had several different medical issues. He has had major heart surgery, was treated for depression, and suffered from a minor stroke. “…but he never quit fishing or hunting” says his wife, Rhea Chiles. How he dealt with this was the best way any human being can deal with it, by “just rolling with it”. He was the strongest man I know to be a governor. If he was to live longer, he would be a very healthy environment. He would probably be still helping Florida.
Chile wasn’t just a governor for Florida, he was a member of the Florida House of Representatives 1958-1966.He was also Florida State senate from 1966 to 1970. He would be a big influence on our society.
Mr. Chiles had a terrible death in Tallahassee, Florida. He was found lying by his exercise machine on a late Saturday afternoon. The cause of his death is because of a heart failure. He passed away 23 days before his designated time expired to be the governor. He will forever be known as “Walkin’ Lawton” and “The Guy that Brought Us Child Care”. He lives from April 3, 1930 to December 12, 1998.

In the time that he was governor he helped make California a better state. He said no to a law that would increase the price on vehicle registration fees. He also helped prevent illegal immigrants from getting driver licenses. He also helped California’s economy. Rumors had been spread that he was planning on running for senate in 2010 but those rumors turned out to be false. He is not allowed to run for president because he was not born a US citizen. I feel as though they should allow a change in that requirement. They should make it harder for a non US citizen to run but they should still allow it considering we are all immigrants that migrated to this country.…

Castro ideology doesn’t fully match my congressional district because both of the other senators are both under the republican party unlike Mr. Castro who is under the democratic party. The Texas governor which is continuing to build on his record of his strong, conservative leadership is, Gregory Abbot which also a republican that has more similar beliefs in the conservative field like myself. So basically I don’t think that Mr. Castro is a good representative for my district because more civilians are like myself rather than supporting the beliefs of his ideology label. The state of Texas is very strong in the republican party and is against most of Mr. Castro beliefs which could be a problem. I think his representative figure would fit better in a district in California, a very democratic state. Mr. Castro has a lot more in common with there beliefs, such as same sex…

Huey Long was a fiery young man from the beginning. When he was 20, he made the prophecy that he would run for election first to secondary state office in Louisiana, then for governer, then for United States senator, and finally for president (p.8). Throughout his life he completed all of his predictions except for becoming president. It is believed that he never accomplished presidency due to being assassinated. He was also known as Kingfish because of his near dictatorship on Louisiana. He constantly went off into filibusters during congressional meetings, whether it was to pursuade against or in favor of a new bill. He killed many bills in this way, many being essentially dangerous to the common people. He lived a very flamboyant lifestyle, constantly headlining in the newspaper. Even after all the controversy in the Louisiana political system was finally proven after his death, Louisianians still supported him. His speeches and campaigning were very appealing to his audiences, as mobs of 20,000 people clustered to hear him. Longs beliefs that Big Business was corrupting the society were the main platform throughout his political life. At times he was known to filibuster for twelve hours on the injustices that Mr. Morgan and…
