“The spectacle and sensation created by collaboration among creative forces inspires fashion houses to seek out contemporary artists for runway shows, capsule collections, or as commissioned filmmakers” We can see how much Saint Laurent was interested in art through various collaborations. Saint Laurent wanted to be inspired in a new place thus he was inspired by the work of a different artist and collaborated with them. As people have been shocked by the work of Mondrian and Warhol’s artwork, which have completed with new and novel technique that others have not tried, Saint Laurent once again gave a shock to people by collaborating with two artists. With Saint Laurent’s unmistakable artistic element, he completed historic collections. His artistic sense helped raise the value of fashion arts by combining fashion and art, and also made the arts trendy and casual. …show more content…

    This paper has been far more difficult to research than I thought it would be. Unfortunately, photographers are not always given the full credit they desrve for their work and therefore, it is impossible to find the names of the artists of some of my favorite photographs. Instead, I decided to just look up popular photographers in the fashion industry in hopes of having easier access to information. Despite the fact that I now had the names of some of the most world famous fashion photographers, finding information on them is a whole other story in and of itself. As I am beginning to realize, the saying among the photography department is true- if you are not Annie Leibovitz, you will not be known until you are dead. For example, one of my favorite photographers is Diane Arbus. She had compiled vast amounts of work throughout her career. Unfortunately, all of her works were found in a locker after her suicide and then she was seen as an artist. To summarize what I am saying is that the only famous photographers are dead ones and all the successful ones are barely known.     To begin with, Saint Jerome was a Saint, a Scripture scholar, a priest, a monk, and a writer. He was also known as the Doctor of the church. Saint Jerome meets the definition of church father because he had translated the Bible from Hebrew into Latin which had come to be known as the Vulgate. His translation of the Bible was fortunately accepted by the Church. The Council of Trent asked for a new edition of the Vulgate that was corrected in 1592.     Parsons The New School for Design, beginning Januray 22nd, was exhibiting the original design creations of Sophie Gimbel, champion of American Couture and Parsons benefactor, in the Aronson Gallery at the Sheila C. Johnson Design Center until February 12, 2013. The exhibit curated by Beth Dincuff, a part-time assistant professor, in conjunction with Saks Fifth Avenue, displays and provides an insight into Gimbel’s original design creations. It encompassed a wide-range of American and European 20th century garments, featuring 17 original pieces from the Parsons Fashion Archive made by the Salon Modern artisans; pieces of which I will be presenting pictures subsequently in this essay. My favorite pieces being the cocktail dress with appliqued chinoiserie figures, the taffeta dress with under-structure of boning and tulle, the cocktail dress with streaming bows and pearlescent sequins, the evening dress with pin tucks set into “hand-span” waist, the “harlequinade” velvet/satin dress with net overlays and, the sequined evening sheath with confectionary tulle overskirt.
