SEI Strategy Implementation Guide

SEI Strategy Pre-Lesson Questions: Please respond to the following questions by connecting your thoughts/ideas to course materials and/or discussions that furthered your understanding of SEI strategies. 1. Where would this strategy best fit in the lesson and why?
I placed the Reciprocal Teaching activity in the middle of the lesson plan. This has been placed here as a way to help the students become comfortable with the material The students will join with four of their peers to complete this task. This is a way to help them ask questions of each other for parts of the material that they do not quite understand. The Vocabulary graphic organizer will go first as a way of identifying the …show more content…
The students really need to be focused on reading the material thoroughly in order to fulfill their roles in this activity. By providing the groups with a facilitator's it may help ELL students to hear the passage being read out loud if their reading skills are not developed enough for them to read the passage on their own. As a teacher, I need to identify students who are strong enough readers to fulfill this role but are also willing to help the ELL students in the class. The speaking portion of this activity allows the ELL students to communicate in small groups therefore eliminating the nervousness of talking in front of the entire class. Being in a small group allows these students to become comfortable with a few of their classmates at a time and the classmates to serve as peer models for the students. Having the students in small groups during completion of these activities will allow the ELL students to begin communicating with their peers in a smaller setting. Allowing them to work on communication with two or three other students will start to help with any anxieties they have about speaking in front of the entire …show more content…
They say that teachers need to recognize the student's ability level and then help mold the lesson plan in a way that will help the student learn best. The lesson plan of Reciprocal Teaching is something that all levels of ELLs can complete. Students can be given things like sentence structures or question starters to help them complete the task. By also pairing the ELL students with other students who are willing to help them learn, this strategy is going to go well. 4.
