Ralph Lauren is a well-known line that has been established for many years. The Ralph Lauren collection launched from the 1960’s, starting out as just a men’s clothing line. By 1971, Ralph Lauren introduced its womenwear. As the years went on, the Ralph Lauren collection expanded and quickly became a well-recognized, respectable brand. In 2004, Ralph Lauren launched Rugby, a line aimed for a demographic of teens and young adults. Rugby’s flagship store is located on 99 University Place; a walk away from Union Square. (Ralph Lauren.com) This line consists of jackets, polos, outerwear, accessories, and suits that portray a luxurious “preppy” style.
Like many other brands and products, one of the many reasons of Ralph Laurens success is due the advertising of its line. The Ralph Lauren collection is often featured in magazines such as Elle, Vogue, Teen Vogue and WWD. However, Rugby is one line part of the Ralph Lauren collection that has ceased to advertise. Rugby has become a big success and has expanded to multiple cities. Many people acknowledge the line. However, there is still a large group that is unaware of this collection. So the question still remains; how can a line that does not advertise become known to many remain unknown to few and still thrive in sales? I believe that Rugby does not advertise because it is under Ralph Lauren, a well-established brand; and because the lack of knowledge about the line to those who are unaware of it keeps the Rugby collection exciting and interesting to explore discover.
I first came across Rugby when my best friend and I were looking for school bags for our senior year. I had heard the name of the brand before, from a few of my male friends. However, I did not grasp what the collection featured. We were browsing through multiple cites as we googled “back to school bags.” About an hour later we came across a blue messenger bag with a navy and yellow striped strap. We fell in love at an instance. I do not

Crack! I felt the air being forced out of my lungs as I hit the ground. Dazed and gasping, I struggled to protect the ball from the hands of my opponents for those critical moments until help arrived. It came. I saw a blur of green and orange as my team-mates reached the skirmish and threw off my assailants. As a familiar hand swept the ball up and away, the action moved on. For half a moment, I lay there, aching from the tackle and burning from the exertion, but my job was not over. I dragged myself to my feet and followed my brothers back into the fray. I knew that in rugby, as in life, you’re going to get knocked down, but success is about always getting back up.…
