Role, Responsibilities and Boundaries of Own Role as a Teacher
1.1 State own role and responsibilities, and boundaries of own role as a teacher
Student should write a brief essay explaining the role and responsibilities that have within their current post.
Students should write a brief statement explaining the limitations of their role and the boundaries that are required as a teacher.
My role as a teacher is to enable teaching and learning process to the learners. That is why teaher has to be prepared to act as a:
• Presenter
• Communicator
• Instructor
• Mentor
• Teacher
• Tutor
• Lecturer
• Counsellor[1]

I can divide my duties into four categories: 1. “Duties referring to teaching and curriculum:

- to contribute to the development of Visual Art Curriculum - to act as a tutor carrying out pastoral and administrative responsibilities - recruit students

2. Administrative tasks:

Compile and maintain: - records of students’ attendance - schemes of work/programmes of study - assessment schemes in course management - record’s of student’s individual learning programmes - students’ progress reports and records of achievement - progression and course outcome statistics - awarding body records - examination details

Take responsibility for monitoring, record keeping and co-ordinating a group or groups of students.

Implement faculty procedures regarding student behaviour and discipline, in the context of formal college procedures.

Contribute to course submissions for validation and course review.

3. Liaison and monitoring

Liaise as necessary with tutors and staff across the Faculty and College.

Liaise as necessary with employers, examination boards and external bodies.

To liaise with the external verifiers, assessors and moderators as appropriate.

4. Professional development:

To update academic and educational knowledge and practice by attending course, conferences and other appropriate training. This includes participation in staff appraisal and in-service training based on assessment of individual and service needs.

5. Health and safety:

Take responsibility to ensure that, within the school, due care and attention is given to the requirements of health and safety legislation recommending remedial action when necessary.”[2]

Limitations and boundaries:

“The most important boundaries for teachers to maintain are those between themselves and their students”[3]. Relationships between them should always be kept on professional level, and never should become personal. That is why it is important not to give out private e mail address or home telephone number. Students should contact teacher on workplace mailing address and business mobile phone number.
