Role Of Family In Romeo And Juliet
Family to us means a husband, wife, or children, however in the story of Romeo and Juliet, family serves a greater purpose as it is a key theme in the play. Family in Romeo and Juliet at first appears to be between to bloodlines, but it is evident that in the play, relations between unrelated people can be stronger than blood relations. When Romeo slaughters Tybalt in retaliation for killing his friend Mercutio, it is Mercutio’s relations with romeo and the prince, that allows romeo to have a lighter sentence when he kills tybalt. Throughout the play Juliet’s main maternal figure is her nurse not biological mother, the latter of whom has an almost non existent relationship to Juliet.
