Romeo And Juliet Relationship
Romeo is the son and heir of Montague and Lady Montague but is also best friends with Mercutio and his cousin Benvolio. Romeo has a stronger bond to Friar Lawrence than he does with his parent and this makes the Friar the father figure of Romeo just like how the nurse is for Juliet. Verona respected and loved him; in addition, he was also a handsome man who falls easily in and out of love. During the play, Romeo’s character evolves from adolescence to adulthood as a result of his love for Juliet and his inherited involvement in the feud between the Capulets and Montagues. At the beginning of the play Rosaline -a beautiful maiden who had captured his heart- infatuates Romeo, and he is perceived here as a ‘love sick puppy’:

However, when Romeo is not daydreaming about Rosaline in his room, he’s moping around grove “sycamore” trees, which is where those who are sick in love (sick amour) tend to hang out (Act1 Scene1, lines 111-112). Romeo prefers to “pen himself, shut up his windows, locks, fair daylight...(A1 S1, lines 129-130) “ he is nothing more than a boy going through the stage of heartbreak and rejection. Admirations for his or her courage, outstanding impeccable achievements or noble qualities are the qualifications of a hero. Romeo is brave and unafraid of danger as he risks death to sneak into the Capulet garden to catch a glimpse of Juliet after the Capulet party in Act 2 scene 2. Tybalt is violent and tries to test Romeo’s strength, but unlike Tybalt, Romeo knows when to fight and unleash his strength, he only acted on impulse when Tybalt killed Mercutio. Romeo’s love for Juliet prevented him from fighting Tybalt, as “the king of cats” was his cousin in law. This quote by Friar Lawrence in William Shakespeare’s play, Romeo and Juliet, perfectly sums up two different types of relationships. One of which is represented by Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet, who run fast into their love even though their families have a seemingly unending feud.
