Ricci's Influence On The Italian Christianpriest
Matteo Ricci, SJ was an Italian Jesuitpriest born of a noble family on the 6th of October 1552, in Macerata, Italy. He was attracted to the Jesuit religious order and, in opposition to his father's wishes, he joined the Society of Jesus. Along with his studies in philosophy and theology, he also studied mathematics, cosmology, and astronomy under the guidance of Clavius.
Ricci began his journey in 1577 and travelled to Portugal. Then, in 1578, he sailed to the Portuguese city of Goa on the west coast of India to study priesthood. He was ordained in 1580 and then sailed to China afterwards. Ricci took an intesive language course to master Chinese. He also tried to immerse himself in the Chinese culture so he could adapt to the customs of China. He brought with him various …show more content…
Matteo Ricci’s level of greatness. I aspire to be like him, not in the sense of spreading and preaching my religion to remote countries, but in the sense that I would be a great leader and influencer just like him. But, this doesn’t happen overnight, and in fact, I have a long way to go. Just like him, I need to prepare well. I need to study hard because knowledge is a great requirement for a person to be a leader. Second I need to understand and adapt to the diverse cultures people. To be a leader, I need to understand that we are all different and we all have different circumstances. Third, work with a friend or a team. Being a leader isnt a one-man show. A leader needs followers and friends to guide and help them along the way. Lastly, always stay humble. Being a leader doesn’t mean I am superior and greater than other people. A leader treats his followers as his equal and a leader is always grateful for everything he has. Fr. Matteo Ricci will serve as my inspiration to strive for greater heights. He went beyond the boundaries and took risks to achieve his main purpose in life, and for that he will forever be an embodiement of greatness, and someday I hope I will be
